Really, the only downside is aftermarket accessories for lifting it. Of course, not alot of 4Runner owners will lift their runners, but, the Xreas makes it hard to do. I talked with Jason Demello today and he stated that he just put a lift on a 05' Sport with Xreas...he had to completely unbolt the Xreas system and take off all the shocks and hoses before he added the lift. So, if lifting is in your future, you may want a limited or sr5. Thats the only downside I see.Hitman said:I don't think you feel a difference in terms of ride quality or anything like that, but you should definitely feel a difference when going around a bend or turn. The 4Runner stays much more level and has much less body lead when taking an on-ramp or off-ramp, for example.
If you ever drove a non-XREAS 4Runner, you'd probably be shocked at how much it feels like your grandfather's old caddy. Not trying to diss the non-XREAS owners, but it's just such a big difference. I'm surprised that Toyota didn't make it standard on all 4Runners. Other than the extra cost, what's the real downside??
I agree with you 100%. Realistically, the 4Runner in stock form can do just about anything you want it to. The only advantage of going higher is maybe some SERIOUS rock crawling (which I WILL NOT do with my beautiful babied 4Runner). Personally, if I want to rock crawl, I will buy an old landcruiser for a few thousand and give it he**. And, the 3 inch lift you are talking about is a spacer lift, which I AM NOT a big fan of. But, each to his/her own.Hitman said:Yeah, that's probably true. Although it seems that there are plenty of people doing mild (3 inch) lifts with XREAS system in place.
But like you said, most owners will not lift their 4Runners. I'd bet that less than 1% of all 4th gen 4Runner owners will install any type of lift kit. Maybe even less than 1/2%.

Wow, now thats cool. Too bad they dont do that for the U.S. folks. But, now that you mention it, maybe sometime down the road (only had it 5 days now), I may cut the plastic out and make it look as though it serves a purpose. I wonder if having an opening there would actually help keep the engine cooler as fresh cool air would come in? Just a thought......Hitman said:Someone here actually removed the black plastic insert in their hoodscoop. I remember seeing pictures of it.
FYI, the hoodscoop is fully functional on the turbo deisel models sold overseas. It routes air through the intercooler.
