Xreas

Good morning,

I recently purchased an 03 V8 Limited that has the XREAS suspension. My front passenger shock is leaking some oil. I believe that to replace that leaking shock I will have to replace both linked shocks and also the tubing and center valve.

Is this correct? has anyone done it and how much does it cost?

If I continue driving it with the leaking shock is it going to leak all of the fluid out of both shocks eventually?

Thanks!

Don't quote me, but I believe you will only lose the fluid out of the one shock because the center valve is not really a valve, it has a piston that gets pushed back and forth. There is no fluid exchange between the two shocks BUT I think it will negate most of the damping effects of the corresponding shock, even though it is still full of fluid and will feel like it is shot as well.

I think its an expensive fix, on the order of over a grand :(

At this point, if it were me, I would consider switching over to some Bilsteins and call it a day. I have the same set-up (03 Limited V8 with X-REAS), and I think the X-REAS is a phenomenal system since it does not hinder offroading yet still lets it handle like a champ among SUV's, but the cost would be too much for me to justify since it is in fact an SUV and not a Lotus.

FWI I think this is the first time that I (or most other members here, although someone will probably chime in to say that X-REAS systems die all the time) have heard of a non-accident related X-REAS failure.

Hope you get it all figured out :)

Thanks!

I bought it used from a neighbor and I think she may have hit a curb with the front or something, the tire had a slice in the sidewall too.

I got a great deal on it as far as I'm concerned, so I am not complaining, I just wish Toyota made it so you could replace just one shock and recharge the system.
