I just added my old cross bars to my new 4runner. My old set up was on a topper so I had the added rain gutters and then the towers. For this to work I had to scrap the old towers yet could still use the cross bars. For the sew set up I had to get something they call the "Lowriders". Got them from an REI in Atlanta on vacttion. It clamps to the factory rail and holds the cross bar. It is not as tall and bulky as the old tower. Looks clean. I bet someone can post a pic of this set up.

nice i would love to see it if anyone does...im gonna have to order those lowrider towers, since i have the ones for the 3rd gen runners....if you can post a pic id love to see it....but ill take your word for it that it looks good and order the towers soon...ill post ofcourse when i get it on...thanks

Loyd, have you decided if you are going to get some lights for your Safari bar? I think it would look really good. :hat:

Yakima rack

Hi:

I installed a Yakima system on my 04 4Runner. It consisted of 58" bars, as well as locking lowriders. I did not get a photo of it, as I did not have my fairing with me, to reduce the windnoise.

The unit was solid, and only sticks out about 5" from the factory rack. When you remove it, the lowriders slide on the bars, therefore it would be good to mark the position of one side to have equal amount of bar protruding. The lowriders have a rubber base that protects the factory rack, and once installed the assembly is solid.

I would recommend the fairing, as it should reduce the wind noise.
