Yakima Skyrise RTT

Does anyone have any experience with the Yakima Skyrise RTT, in either the 2 or 3-man versions? Looking to hear a little first-hand insight on this tent.

Yesterday I purchased a Yakima timberline tower set with the corebar crossbars. After buying that I got to looking at this RTT, it seems like a really convenient option with the tool-free mounts that essentially clamp and lock around crossbars. Claims it installs in just minutes. I also like the fact that it’s lightweight, but know this is a byproduct of cheaper and thinner materials used.

I get that the quality and durability may not be up to the same standard as some of the more established tent brands, and reviews online are hit and miss. But this does at first glance look like a solid option for the occasional weekend camper/roadtripper like myself that wants to test the RTT waters. I’m all ears to experience with this tent or reasons why other brands would be a much better option, or comparable tents in the general price range of this one. I’m a newcomer to the RTT world so i’m curious to learn more before making a big investment in one some day.

I would recommend you look into Freespirit Recreation at gofsr.com. I bought a RTT back in July and absolutely love it. I spent months looking at all of the brands and sizes, but ultimately it came down to the size pitched, pricing, and various weights. My girlfriend and I are probably a combined 300lbs and my dog is 40lbs. We all sleep very comfortably in there.

I got this a few months back and it's held up pretty well. I got it based on the fact that it's lighter and comes with factory locks. Haven't used it in the rain and have been lucky not to get rained on yet.

REI had a 20% off sale on Black Friday, and I was able to get a $200+ refund vs having to rebuy the tent.

Did you end up making the purchase? I just sold my hardshell and am currently looking at a used Skyrise. According to the Yakima website, the standard crossbars aren't compatible, and none of the towers they sell are compatible. Let me know if you or anyone else knows what roof rack to get!
