YAY, tire vibration wont go away

So I have hankook dynapro mt's with about 30k on them, suspension is pretty new. I have rotated my tires religiously every oil change. Since this last rotation, I keep getting vibration at highway speeds 65-75. I have had a little vibration in the past, but had tires rebalanced and it went away. I have had the tires rebalanced twice since the last rotation, and still getting it. Discount tire does all my work. Im not sure if mud tires eventually become unbalanceable, should I take it back again to be balanced, my tires still have plenty of tread on them. Any help or advice would be appreciated..

heres a pic of each of my tires if it helps. thanks .

I can see from the top pic that you have the traditional m/t old tire cupping thing starting. You can see in the pic that every other lug is a different color. Make sure your toe and caster is as close as it can be, then have them balanced again. If nothing else, you have a paperwork trail indicating you may have some tires which my be starting to seperate or are just becoming out of round. Who knows, if you have a warranty, you could be a candidate for some replacements at a reduced cost.

how often are your oil changes? based on the tread wear and cupping, I would guess you went too long between rotations.
MT's need to rotated much more often than a tire with less aggressive tread.

also, how old are your front shocks? some of that uneven wear could be from poor bounce control due to worn shocks.

Yea, those are cupped. Rotate your tires back to how they were and leave them there until you buy new tires.

Nevada is spot on, but I would just leave them where Jeremy suggested. Sorry man, no offense. For sure, make sure your chassis parts are in good order like Nevada said, and also depending on your driving habits and how often you are off road you might want to bring back your tire rotations a little. For me, during the heart of my wheeling season, I sometimes rotate every 5k with the oil change. Good luck

I had those exact tires on my 4runner when I bought it--quite frankly they aren't worth poo in my opinion. PO put them on there and they were almost new, I couldn't get them to balance out and the vibes drove me crazy.

My wifes 4th gen had Michelin AT2 tires at the time and they drove like a dream. I sold the dynapro on craigslist and went with a toyo at2 and they have been awesome.

might just have to torque the lugs correctly. mine were overtorqued and i had some wicked shimmy. torqued them to 83 ft/lbs and good to go.

Hancooks seem to cup after time. I also think it is suspension components wearing out that brings it on sooner. Dealing with this on my wifes pathfinder. Money money money!!

ok thanks for the info.

when the maintenance light comes on I change my oil and rotate my tires. I didn't know mt's had to be rotated more often, wish they would have told me that when I bought them. shocks and springs are less than 30k miles old all around.

is that really my only option. the guy at discount said they will wear back to how they were with them rotated.

thanks, ya I have been rotating them religiously with every 5k oil change.

I loved the tires up till this last rotation, they are great in all conditions off road, minimal road noise and had seemed to be wearing fine. I had the toyo at2 before these, but needed more aggressive tire for more offroading.

idk what the shop torques them to.

they still have plenty of tread on them, I was hoping to get a good 50k out of these tires. Im at about 30k right now.

can tire inflation have anything to do with it. I overinflate a bit to 38psi. I have read that can affect it, but also that that's not true too.:ybrick:

depending on how bad they are, they may never straighten out. at least not before the front tires get bad.
if you leave them on the rear long enough to flatten out the tread, likely the fronts will cup out badly. its a vicious cycle that is hard to correct if t gets too far.

also, crossing the fronts to the rear can help some. so if they didn't do that, swap the rear side to side.

Having done this myself a few times, I think it is the best option. The tires won't last as long, but I'd rather them not last as long than being annoyed every minute I spend driving.

I rotate every 2K miles, now.

I believe they did cross them, but I will make sure. So it may be best to rotate them back then.

lol true. Its weird because if its just me driving it vibrates a lot between 65 - 75 mph, but if my wife and son are with me it doesn't really do it.

In my experience I got almost 50K out of the Dynapros. They cupped at about 35k and I rotated every 3 to 5K. The cupping never went away and the tires were pretty loud. Aside from that I like the tires a lot but just put on a set of Dueler revo 2's today since winter is well on it's way. Hopefully these dont cup as I have read good reviews. My wifes pathfinder is also cupping and she has BFGoodrich rugged trails and I know the shocks and struts are worn out on it cause it has quite a bit more body roll in corners and it is just squishy. I am no suspension expert by any means but since shocks and struts seem to push the tires against the ground in a sense maybe it could cause cupping or irregular tire wear if they arent working correctly??? I may be way off

1.) Make sure the rim bore matches the wheel hub diameter. If you have oem rims, ignore. if the bore and hub don't match, order metal hub centric rings

2.) Get a good road force balance. Your local Discount Tire may not have this available ( and even if they do they won't use it unless you ask ). My daily driver is a Lexus GS430 that is sensitive to wheel imbalance. A road force balance is the ONLY way I have gotten the vibes to go away completely.

3.) if you are using spacers, make sure they are hub centric, torqued properly, and preferably a known brand.

4.) If above don't solve it, replace the tires. Stick with one of the name brand tires that are known for coming oem like Michelin, Goodyear, Pirelli, BFG, Bridgestone, Continental.
