yellow slime under oil cap?

hi, i looked at a v6 4runner recently & it had a yellow'ish slime under the oil cap, i wasnt aware of this & passed on buying it. after some quick research & talking with a mechanic friend i found it is normal for these engines due to condensation on the filler tube &/or short trips etc. some even say the dealer confirmed it was not a concern.

the threads i found were a few years old so i just wanted to get current opinions from members here. anyone have or are familiar with this issue? & is it normal for these engines with the long filler tubes? the 4runner is an 08 so it should be out of the bad head gasket years.

Yep it's normal, happens on mine. It was surprising at first but it not a concern.

Normal to see this on the cap, as long as you don't see any in the oil/on the dipstick it isn't an issue.

What you’re seeing is the additives in the oil combining with water from condinsation. A bad PCV will also cause this to happen. Normally a hot engine would vaporize and remove the water but if the engine isn’t warming, bad thermostat, or the PCV is not working the water stays in the oil and engine. Not good.

Mine gets it thru winter. Short commutes. Take it out on a highway cruise here and there and the motor will burn it off.

I installed a catch can between the PCV and intake manifold this winter. Helping a bit with the pudding under the oil cap, but gotta empty the catch can weekly.
