Yet another keyless entry question...but different.

Trying to figure out if my son's 2000 4runner has keyless entry. Changed all the actuator motors this weekend in hope I could finally program a couple of fobs. I did the steps nothing. Someone mentioned to me that if I had a little security light, that meant I had an alarm and should have keyless. Messing around yesterday I popped the security light out and the wires had been cut.

So does that make the system not work? I tired to find the wires to it but can't, where is the keyless entry/alarm brain located so I can find it and see if it's hooked up.

Why would have someone cut the wires?

Thats a light for the alarm system. Check the driverside kick panel there maybe a aftermarket alarm box there. You will know it's aftermarket by the crimp wire connectors.:cheers:
 
On a 2000, factory keyless entry was built in to the Body ECU. Alarms, whether factory or after-market, were add-ons. The only visible evidence of factory keyless entry is the chirper thingy, located on the inner passenger fender wall, way back towards the firewall.

I don't know what they did when they installed the alarm, but you should be able to restore it to factory pre-alarm. Here is the 2000 wire diagram:

Hi

Just curious, do you have a LIMITED or SR5? Funny I just installed an aftermarket alarm in my limited and the stupid driver's door actuator is acting up. It will lock with pulse but not unlock with remote. :(
 
You can call the dealer with the VIN and they can tell you if it had factory keyless.. there's a code for it on their VMI.
 
They told me it does, then I checked a website and looked up my VIN and I didn't see it mentioned. So I really don't know to be honest.

Yeah, a vin decoder from a website doesn't normally list detailed codes so it wouldn't surprise me that it doesn't show up on there. The list the dealer can look up get's down to whether or not the vehicle shipped with a first aid kit.. I would trust the dealer.

Well dealership I called said it did, but due the life if me I can't get the remotes to program. The locks never cycle like the instructions say they will

It took me literally 13 tries to get my fobs programmed. Mine had none when I bout the rig and I ordered some. They work fine....I was just ready to throw them out while trying to program then.

Worst yet, afterwards my wife asked me to replace hers on her '06 Impala. Took 2 mins to program her new ones when they arrived :rant:

I reckon I'll keep on trying, maybe I'll luck up and get it right.

No. I bought my runner from a mom and pop dealer that only had one metal key from Home Depot or something similar. Went to the dealer and ordered a fob and key and went home and got it working.. eventually.
