Okay so I have a 99 Limited. I have used the 4wd here and there so I have known it to work. a while ago I used the 4wd button on the side on the J-stick everything engaged working fine but got to a point where I didnt need it on anymore and went to turn it off. The indicator light just kept flashing.

Now, the rear still engages but the front never locks in, I have done the wire mod to use the locker in 2wd. The rear will change from high to low. Front will never engage. I can turn the shaft by hand.

I have been pushing this off just because well lazy and it was racing season. lol

I see to check the VSV and check valve for vacuum/signal. if all is good, would I need to look into testing the 4wd actuator?

if I understand the truck has an E-locker, that seems to function correctly. you have not modified the E-lockler to work in 2WD. OK!

regardless now your 4WD indicator is flashing all the time.

your truck is in 2WD right now with the indicator flashing all the time and it will not engage the front end. The rear E-Locker still functions fine, you can engage it and disengage it. because the truck thinks the front end is engaged but it is not.

sorry I had a hard time following what your saying above.

Sorry I just edited it up more. hope that helps.

yea for sure check those vac lines, I had to replace some of the soft lines because they were cracked. also check the hard lines. the hard lines can rust out if your in the salt belt.

I know the 01,02 people complain about the sensors but I personally have never seen them go bad on the earlier trucks.
