Yet another question about suspension, shocks this time..

There is alot of great info on here about lifts, sag etc....

That being said I can't find the answer to my question so I ask.....

Can I get new shocks for my rear stock suspension, stock type shocks, but still use them with OME 2.5 lift springs later?

I guess i'm asking are OME lift kit shocks longer then stock shocks? and will I need new shocks again if I want to lift the runner later on if I go with standard type replacement shocks now?

See I don't have sag now, but my rear shocks are totally shot, and I can't afford a lift right now, but I'd hate to have to buy rear shocks again if I get a lift kit in like a year or something.

I believe so. The Bilstein replacement shocks I think work with stock springs and the OME springs. But I can't swear to it.

You should look into this guys rear Tokico shocks. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/sale-...809-factory-toyota-coils-great-condition.html They would be a cheap uprgrade from your old ones. I'm pretty sure you can use stock shocks with the OME, but it won't ride that well and limit your flexing. You could also put a wanted add and see if anyone has any stock shocks laying around they would want to give away. If I hadn't cut mine in half taking them out I would have gave you them.

If you plan on lifting it down the road, buy a set of longer shocks. They should still work fine with the stock height and then you'll have the longer length when you lift it later.

I put on some HD Billys all around 6 months after I got my 99 Runner in 2006 and waited to put the 906s in the rear until 2008 (should have done it all at one time). Given that the 906s are only 2", and you want 2.5", I don't know if the Billys will work well over time or it is too much travel for them. I would think you would need the longer shocks.

IMHO, find some cheap but decent shocks (KYB, or I have seen Tokicos on sale now and then) and save your pennies for a one time lift install later.

i can confirm, i had the bilstien HDs with stock height on a 97 then i put on some 891's and they work fine with them now.

Bilsteins HD rear shocks are slightly longer than stock Tokico by about 1/2"-1" from what I saw when I swapped them in. Their max extended length is 20.2" The OME rear shocks are 21.2".

With that said, I'm rocking OME 890's with Bilstein HD's in the rear and am having no issues. My rear shock part numbers is 24-024518. The old part numbers is F4-BE5-2451-H0. I'm sure I'm sure I could have better articulation with the OME shocks, but the Bilstein shock has proved to dampen the 890's more than adequately and I'm happy with the results. The Bilstein HD has no problem dampening the 190lb/in OME spring rate. With a small 12" sub box in the trunk, I'm netting 2.75" lift in the rear.

Ok, I decided not to lift this truck, atleast not anytime soon.

So whats some good options for stock rear shocks? I haul 2 12" speakers and some tools, also have a hitch and plan to tow somthing at some point :guitar3:


I prefer new stuff, model#'s details on ride etc greatly apreciated.
