Has anyone put Yokohama Geolandar A/T-S tires or their H/T-S on their 4Runners? Seems like everyone likes the Revo or the Cross terrains, but they are both pretty expensive compared to the Yoko's.

How well do AT tires run on pavement, any loss in traction on-road?

My mom has the H/T-S on her '99 Limited and she really likes them and they would be fine for an occasional trail run and are perfect for a daily driver and longer commutes.

I had the A/T +IIs on my '97 and they were the cheapest tire out there and had good dry grip and solid off road performance but they seem to want to wear kinda quick with a 380 tread wear rating. Not the best for long commutes.

I prefer my Nittos as far as an A/T tire goes and is fine on my DD since I only average about 10k miles a year. The Nittos have a 500 rating and they definelty are wearing better than my Yoks did and the Nittos have solid on road manners but handle the abuse of tghe trails nicely for a competitively priced tire.

Both Yoks have good mileage warranty where the Nittos don't have one.
If you only off road occasionally I'd get the Yok H/Ts.

I agree with RonMaiden. Yoko's are great tires, but i would probably stay away from AT-S if you want something for just on-road and long life.

RonM, your Nittos are P-rated or LT-rated?? I think that in YOUR size, it's LT-rated only. If so, then the Treadwear 500 rating does NOT apply to your tires. Treadwear ratings only apply to P-rated tires...there is no rating for LT-rated tires.

Yeah,they are LT but the Nittos are definetly a bit harder compound than the Yoks. I'm expecting about 50k from my Nittos.

I looked in tirerack and the H/T-S tires seem to have pretty good rating. Although I noticed each tire weighs 43 lbs compared to other tires which are mostly 40 lbs. Does the 3 lbs extra unsprung weight make much of a difference in terms of performance and wear on the suspension.

The A/T-S is relatively light, only 36 lbs.

I have the H/T-S and I really like them. Yes I could have bought better tires but also at a higher price. I will buy them again. I got them at Tirerack P265/65R17

I've had my AT-S's for 10k now and love them. We've had the most rain on record for the year here and they are great. I have had them in sand, wet, and mud. No problems with any wear. Only thing i noticed is when in heavy mud they don't clean themselves at all.

I ran Yoko Geos - the HT/S 051s - on a Suburban. Got 50K miles and was very happy with them, so I just replaced them with the same tires. They are excellent on the highway and around town - quiet and good traction.

I am getting ready to put the same Geolanders on my 4Runner Sport (2004). It is hard to justify paying 200+ more for Revos unless you do a lot of offroading (I don't).

Revos aren't for people who off road alot;they are more of DD tire with solid off road intentions but will return long life for you but they aren't in the same class as the BFG KOs,Yoko Geo AT+IIs or the Nitto TGs which aren't the greatest daily driver tires.

I have the AT-S on my GX and I like them alot better than the junk dunlop grand treks that were on it originally.

Not a whole lot of road noise and they grip well in off road. On a recent vacation we hit some old minign trails and had a little bit of fun.

Agreed, although (Revos) great ride on wet & dry , I have not been impressed off road or in snow , but on the other hand I go a lot of places wheeling in the snow and although the traction has not been the greatest they did get me home..... all that matters I guess. I would also classify these tires as an aggressive all season M+S bordering on all terrain. Ron's key word in his statement about the Revos were "solid off road INTENTIONS" I'm not saying they are a bad tire at all , depends on what your uses and want are vs what you need. Tires with an "LT" rating seem to have a 3/32 deeper tread depth. (also longer wear) since they have more tread.


Good tires are expensive but I'm a firm believer that you get what you pay for to an extent.

The term "ALL TERRAIN" or "AT" has become a very loose term used with tires now days. Most of them labeled "All Terrain" are pretty much done for marketing purposes. A perfect example is the Donlop Grantrek AT 20's that came stock on a 4R , labeled with an AT and marketed as the truck coming with an AT tire , but has all the characteristics or an all season tire.
