Yokohama geolander or Bridgestone HT

I am about to get a 2020 limited and it has Bridgestone tires on it. My 2015 limited has Yokohama Geolanders. It looks like some 2020 4runners come with Yokohama and some come with Bridgestone. Ive never had Bridgestone. Should I swap the bridge stones out for Yokohama? Any help on which is better would be appreciated.

Hi:

I don't know which is better, but what I can tell you two things
1- drive on highway and make sure there is no vibrations with the truck you are going to buy. some members had issues with vibrations from new.
2- double check the PSI. mine was 42 psi when new and it should be around 32-35. I read that they are shipped inflated and dealer should be readjusting them when inspecting the car.

I have Yokohama with my new 2020 and so far with few miles they are OK.

My wife's last Forester came with geolanders and they did really well to meet her needs. Her new one has the Bridgestone Ecopia and they are absolutely terrible with respect to handling and all-season performance when compared to the Yokohama's.

Bridgestone Duelers H/Ts are largely a tire manufactured as an OE product. They're not bad if the car comes with them, but I wouldn't willingly purchase them again. And forget driving in snow with them. That's just scary.

For what it's worth my 2016 came with Bridgestone tires and the steering wheel shimmy was quite pronounced, no one could get them to balance. Finally at 15K miles I swapped them for Wildpeaks, shimmy was gone and has been for 30K+ miles now.

I swapped mine out for Yokohama geolander AT's.
Dueler HT's were worst tires I've ever expeienced. Just horrible in every way!

Timely thread as I've got a 4Runner coming and my thought was to have them swap the tires for Toyo AT3's (275/70R17's), going to see about getting the bronze TRD Pro wheels (well, I guess in bronze they're more of an Anniversary Edition wheel but w/e) too. This just confirms that the factory tires are just not good.

I noticed the OP is in Austin so this might not matter unless they travel to snow country but others might care. My '22 Sport came with 20" Yoko G96's and they are among the worst OEM tires I have driven in winter. Almost as bad as the Yoko G 56's I had on a Crosstrek. I guess tire manufacturers can call anything that isn't a slick M&S rated. These things see a snowflake, climb on top and slide off the road sideways. Hockey pucks have better traction. They do seem to wear well but I do take them off for 5 months and run studded snows. They are quiet and seem to ride well once I adjusted the as delivered 48 PSI down to 32 PSI. I have Michelin LTX's on a Tundra and they work much better but I still run studded snows on it in the winter.

I have two Limited's, I have had both the tires listed above on one or the other one. They are ok in the dry and highway use. For winter they arent good if you get alot of snow. I run dedicated snow tires in 17 inch instead of 20. Theres more choice in 17 265 range as well. PLus the smaller tires can be cheaper.

In defence of Made in Japan Brigestone Dueler HighwayTerrain tires, 39 lbs weight, I can only say they perfect tires for what they are: highway terrain all year around on stock vehicle. Those tires not good for off roading, not good for mud, not good for snow, and are not claim to be.
