For some reason I don't know exactly, there is a rebate offered to 4Runner with V8. The rebate is $1,500, good enough to offset the gas price increase for the next few years. So, you are buying a powerful V8 engine with price below a V6. Sounds like a good deal.

The Rebates (at least here in Florida) are $1,000 for the V6 models, but for the V8s they were increased to $2,000. Given that the listed fuel economy for the V6 4x4 is 17/21 and for the V8 is 16/19, the 1mpg difference in the city is really not that big a deal. Also, when you consider that the V8 is full time 4WD and still getting 16/19, then that means that the V6, when put in 4WD mode, will likely get the same gas mileage as the V8 anyway. I understand that you don't need to have your truck in 4WD all the time, but still, an extra $1,000 is well worth buying the V8.

My 04 Runner had a $2000 rebate when I bought it 1yr ago.

I started a new thread I think two weeks back on the $2400 rebate offered from Toyota.

I copied and pasted the info from what I got from Edmunds.

Basically it is a $2000 rebate and an additional $400 if you are a recent graduate or soon to be.

Does the gas guzzler tax apply to SUV's or are they considered trucks? I know the gas guzzler tax is written to only affect quote "cars" but does SUV mean truck in there terminology? I guess so otherwise it'd be like $3000 gas guzzler tax for V8 4Runners...

I don't think it applies to SUVs. I just read a review of the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 (the one with the 425 horse 6.1 "HEMI") and they commented that it avoided the guzzler tax cuz of it's non-car classification, but the Mercedes AMG wagon it was being comared to had to pay it. Very strange

I don't think that trucks and SUVs do not have to pay the gas guzzler tax. My old BMW M3 had to...even though it gets double the MPG as my current rig.

funny this is brought up as i just read a news from my cell (while pooping) that the fed is coming up w/ new improved fuel efficiency req for vehicles built as early as 2008 Model Year and one key chg is finer granularity classifying vehicles - instead of a req for SUV in general, now there are diff reqs for compact, mid, full size SUV. the news goes on to conclude this will benefit GM/Ford more somehow. At least that's how I read it.

The $400 recent college grad rebate only applies if you use Toyota financing ..... which I found to be higher that other financing sources.
