Was on the way to go pick up another, new 3rd Gen, when this happened.

Get those dashcam's guys, only about $70, and you can save your ass time after time.

Yep. Happen to me. Got hit by a lady that told the police I ran into her lane. Dashcam proved my story. It was easier to put it on Youtube so the office could watch it.
Everyone should have one on their windshield.

I've had one for like two months now — but of course I've been too lazy to install it. Sucks too because I would have caught a motorcycle doing about 80-100 mph hit the ass-end of an SUV that changed lanes from the slow lane to Fast on the highway. This was at night too.

It was quite interesting to see it happen right in front of and to the left of me. I narrowly managed to avoid running over him and his motorcycle. Not sure if everyone else did though...

Would have been a good video to show new riders ... and the cops.

I hate people that drive like that. There's CLEARLY 2 lanes. When you turn your suppose to turn into your own lane and not turn wide. I see this happening A LOT! And they give you a dirty look like you don't know how to drive. If people fallowed the RULES.... there would be less traffic to because everyone had a lane for different situations and traffic keeps flowing

Hell yes. It seems like half of New Jersey doesn't know how to stay in a lane while turning. Not trying to have a rear quarter panel hit. Not exactly an easy fix and I'm not satisfied with a gallon of bondo on my quarter panel.
 
Wow, good thing you guys got your dash cam rolling to catch the collisions. I know it make it that much harder to prove your case without one.
You can never bank on the other party telling the truth these days. Yes, I totally agree that everyone should be driving with a dash cam, it keeps everyone honest.
I gave my insurance agent some collision scenarios, and the insurance agent says they will go with whatever the police has written down.
So I told agent what if the cops blames me for the accident, and I had a dash cam with video proof that it wasn't my fault? The agent says they will go by the video proof and not the police.
How valuable is that?!! Entry level for a decent dash cam start at $80.
 
I have armarella based one for a year or so, haven`t catch any accidents yet.

Go Pro using the same chip BTW. quality is pretty good even at night.
 
What brands do you guys use? That's pretty good quality! Does it basically just record in a loop, overwriting the oldest video on the card? Do you just leave it plugged into your cigarette lighter and have it come on automatically when you start the car?
 
Also use the HORN if you see something is coming your way. This saves your time and other's time.

I use it to avoid bad encounters. It saves your truck and your time!

Yes. It comes on when you turn the key on. It goes in a loop, overwrites the oldest video.
 
I had thought about drilling one of my GoPro cases so that I can wire it in and use it as a dash cam, but with the options available these days for a low price it seems like it would be a pain in comparison.

Thanks for the suggestions, going to look into this for my vehicles.
 
We have dash cams in every vehicle. At first we just bought the $50 Ebay ones, then went to the iRoad Korean made $300 ones. Now we run Garmin. It's nice to have a quality product with state side support.

I cannot understand why everyone would not want to run a dash cam, it's just a Pricless piece of hardware that cost $100.

This is the one I bought. Haven't installed it yet but I have powered it on and explored its features while formatting the memory card I bought for it. Seems pretty good quality to me. I like that it is low profile and will be tucked behind the mirror (or in front I guess technically ).

It comes with a 12v cig lighter cord but I bought a special cord that is longer and will allow me to hardwire it by piggybacking on a fuse in the fuse box under the dash. So all wires will be completely hidden and it will activate anytime the vehicle is on.

I have the same dash cam. I love it . I ran the wire underneath the head liner and along the passenger side A pillar.Very discrete. I am planning on buying two more units for my Xterra and Santa Fe.

Yeah that's how I'm going to run it too. :cool:

Any tips, tricks or advice with this unit or the install? I'm not anticipating any issues, but there's always that "well shit if I were to do it again — I'd do it this way instead" sort of thing to consider.
 
I really could have used one of these the other day. A group of motorcycle riders took a blind curve riding in the center of a very narrow undivided mountain road. I happened to be coming around the corner at the perfect time. The first guy missed me but the gal in second place had big metal cargo carriers on the back and she couldn't maneuver enough to miss me. Her left cargo carrier struck the left side of my front bumper and she crashed. She wan't injured.

Knowing it was a blind curve, I quickly moved my truck to avoid a secondary accident but that was a mistake. I assumed they were going to take responsibility for the accident because it was blatantly obvious the way they took that corner was dangerous. I was completely on my side of the road. After I moved my truck and started talking to them, I learned they felt I was at fault. I should have taken a picture of where my truck was on the road before moving it. The damage to my truck wasn't bad and I already replaced the bumper face plate that was dented. I might get some insurance money but my deductible is $500.

People suck! I think I'm going to get a dash cam very soon.
