Your take on trading in a ltd for a trd pro

I own a TRD Pro and I recommend keeping the Limited. Things I really wish I had:

- Seat memory: gf drives the 4Runner sometimes and is almost a foot shorter than me, so she changes all of the settings.

- Cooled seats: amazing for road trips

- Keyless entry/push button start: really convenient for when I go snowboarding and my key is zipped away somewhere and it's cold out

Didn’t know Pro lacked so many technology stuffs. Lol.
I personally just love the appearance of the Pro and I have to say Toyota is really smart about making a TRD Pro,just a few pieces of plastics can make a 4runner look so badass.

If I could do it all over again, there's a 50/50 chance I'd get the Limited and swap out parts to make it look like a TRD Pro.

Wrap it yourself, cost me $400 for the wrap, completed it in about 30 hours. Not as intimidating as I originally thought, hardest part is not applying the wrap, hardest part was getting those damn fender clips off lol.

(FYI this is a 2010 SR5P :D)

That’s sick as ****! I can see the work and effort you put on your rig, very nicely done!

Haha, those clips can be a pain in the butt to remove.

That’s pretty much my goal,I may just need a wrap job and some minor cosmetic work to make it look like a pro.

But those true TRD Pro owners will be like,” oh ,another faux pro. “Lol.

There is no way I would trade a Limited for a Pro... especially not for aesthetics.

Limited is the only 4runner that comes with a Torsen center TC, that alone was worth going to the Limited for me.

Considering you mentioned you actually drive in snow and can benefit from AWD, I have no idea why you would even consider it.

Plus the trim of the Limited really is that much nicer... like a lot nicer.

I’m glad you like the Ltd. The most complaints that people have about Ltd are those giant chrome bars on the vehicle and the front bumper makes ltd look like a crossover,I mean,no ground clearance.

You are right about the Ltd being the only true 4by4 among all the trims of 4runner,I’m just after the look after seeing the cement and quicksand Pro.

It's not that its the only true 4x4, its that it has a 4x4/4WD system allows for even more flexibility, allowing for more options and applications, on and off-road.

With a Torsen center, to drive the front wheels with or without the center transfer case locked.

Unlocked it drives just like a AWD Audi, allowing all wheels to be driven and allowing for ratio differences between the front and rear drive axles. The other 5th Gen trims do not allow this.

Or Locked, giving you a 1:1 ratio between front and rear.

Couple that with the luxury trim one comes to expect... memory seats, home link, heated/cooled, push to start/keyless, real leather...

I also like the aggressive styling of the other trims. It really depend on who you ask, its the younger guys like it... I still like the Limited, the aesthetics IMO look mature, and established. I have no problems with either.

That said, a heavily trail modded Limited with a bumper and all, I don't think it matters anymore. But what does matter, you already have.

Very well explained! So are you saying that Ltd can be the most off road capable trim if the mods are done properly?

The Limited just has more options... I would say those options are more of an on-road perk, than an off-road perk.

Those features give you more on-road / bad-road capability, along with the ability to run unlocked AWD off-road. You don't always need 1:1 off-road either, the rear/front power bias can also be nice to drive on.

IMO a Limited makes for the most capable overland vehical... plenty of adventure travel that also happens on-road, and you actually get the benefit of AWD on all surfaces at all times.

You don't want the center locked in certain conditions... 5th Gen Trail/Pro/SR5 owners don't get an option to choose.

Bottom line... that is a premium transfer case, it used to be standard, I have the same on my 4th Gen, but now its only on a Limited and Lexus GX. It makes the SUV that much more versatile.

Damn! Always thought off road premium was the best bang for the buck and Ltd was overrated.

It probably is a better bang for the buck, given the cost difference, but the LE is largely underrated, probably because so few find its appearance acceptable

I went with the Limited back in August. I was torn but it came down to how i use it. I am going to commute and play on the weekends with no major crawling. I also will be towing a popup camper. I was trading in a 2014 Pilot Touring so the Limited actually gave me more features I just had to get over the chrome lip. So far i added Metaltech Sliders and a Gobi Stealth Rack. The rest will change as things wear out.

I fall into this category. Sort of ha. Never been a fan of the refreshed 5th Gen Limited front-end look. That being said, it it were in my budget, I'd suck it up just to have the LTD because of what everyone else has mentioned about what it offers over my TE and every other 4Runner trim.

yeah. if i could have afforded a ltd and the 10k to make it look decent I'd have gone that route.
that said, i drove in snow/ice for the first time on monday and the 4x4 on the ORP works just fine in those conditions.

Here is a good thread for Limited owners...
http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/220308-limited-edition-mod-thread.html

By the time you get to rims/tire and a front bumper, it pretty much starts looking like the rest of them.

Personally I spend a lot more time inside than I do looking at my own truck, so the Limited delivered in areas that were also important to me.

One thing I do like about the Trail and Pro is the manual transfer case. Granted it's a completely different transfer case, but I think there is value there for the off-road enthusiast who care more about off-road reliability.

I have 200k+ miles on my Torsen TC on my 4th Gen, never had any problems, but it's not like TC actuator problems don't exist.

It's not like it won't work, but it's not as controllable...

Where the locked center becomes apparent is when you are driving mountain roads with a bunch of tight twists...

Add low traction surfaces to that and you might shy away from having it in 4WD. You want to allow ratio differences between the front and rear axles.

Your post made me think of this video... completely unrelated, but still entertaining.

Exactly. The front bumper makes the Ltd look really bulky and not a 4by4 truck.
