Your thoughts on these two trucks?

Ever since I decided a few weeks ago to get a 4Runner I have been spending a lot of time on this forum. I have found so much great information!

I'm going over to Denver this weekend to hopefully get a 4Runner so I'm wondering what are your thoughts on these two 4Runners? Both are CPO 4x4 Limited V8 with navigation. I really want X-REAS but I've found it's hard to come by a 4Runner with both navigation and X-REAS. I have trouble with depth perception so the navigation with backup camera is a must for when I'm in tight spaces. Unfortunately, I am in a bit of a time crunch.

I haven't looked at the CARFAX reports...but why not buy exactly what you want...especially if its avail. You are talking about paying $1500 extra for a Rear Seat DVD that only your passengers will use. Just my thoughts.
 
Do you have kids or something? I guess the rear DVD would help keep em quiet... We don't really know what you're into so it's tough to say which one. Many guys on here don't have X-REAS and yet they still do some pretty heavy off-roading.
 
not to bust your bubble but i would go for one without xreas as it will die if your lucky you will get to 100k miles before it does, and if you want to replace from factory its expensive

and if off road, black will get billions of scratches, the best colors are silver and white if you care about not showing pinstripe scratches
 
I'm with Will... The second vehicle in white would be perfect. XREAS, when new, is nice but not worth significant $$$. There are a couple very low $$$ schemes that will get you handling equal to or better than a higher mileage XREAS vehicle.

If you can 'work with' black the 2nd would be my choice but they seem a bit proud of it. That price needs to come down some IMHO.


Edit: I just reread both Carfax's. The white one may be the answer especially if the money difference holds. The fact Toyota was willing to grace with CPO means it looked like a clean, good example to somebody.

Doesn't seem like much of a decision, the newer less expensive 07 has exactly what you want and black is the hardest color to take care of.

When I first read this I thought the 2007 was the way to go but after looking at the carfax history something doesn't seem right. I find it kind of odd that the 2007 has had 3 owners already. This could indicate that the 2007 maybe having a problem that Toyota can't seem to fix or it could be that people were just not happy with the car.
 
THE FIRST CARFAX REPORT SHOWS THE THIRD OWNER HAD IT FOR 4 DAYS AND PUT OVER 15K ON IT?
SEEMS KINDA FISHY....THATS OVER 4OOO MILES A DAY!:shrug:
 
My truck is 08, first owner, all Cali truck and has half the mileage of those trucks. if those are the type of going $$$nowadays, I might consider selling you my truck....LOL

Joke aside, Those prices are high for that kinda mileage on them.
 
I looked at several 4Rs before buying mine (Denver area) two weeks ago. The two XREAS ones I looked at had leaks- hard to see sometimes. Anway, since I had concerns about XREAS after doing some research, I avoided it. I ended up with a 2005 SR5 with around 65K miles. It was a local one-owner trade. I wanted a light color (preferred white/silver) and a sunroof, V8, and 4x4. I wanted to keep it under 20K and easily managed that. That was actually over my budget but was what I really wanted (and had lower mileage than my original target) so I spent a bit more than my original budget.

One thing to keep in mind is that almost every time, the price is negotiable. Also, try to ensure that these are not East Coast auction vehicles. Some of them have significant rust underneath. The ones that come from California and New Mexico auctions are usually in much better shape underneath.
 
FWIW, the second one is the one I'd feel safer with. Why don't you look at all the local dealerships and their inventory- especially the Toyota/Lexus dealerships here for their local trades. Maybe you have already done that. Some are:

Groove Toyota
Stevinson Lexus
Kuni Lexus
 
Thank you so much for the quick replies! I will avoid the X-REAS which will make it easier to find a 4Runner. Now that makes the 2006 perfect except for the color :). After having black leather I don't want a black car. It gets way too hot in the summer I don't have a preference on the dvd system as long as there is no 3rd row seat.

I have looked at the last one quite a few times already. My only concern is the mileage. I know its a Toyota but I will be putting 30k miles on it a year so after just 2 years it will be at 150k. I do really really want a limited since I will be going to on-sites in below freezing weather during the winter and the heated seats will be so nice to have.

NADA has navi adding $1,000 to the retail price. I plan to upgrade the speakers anyway so I'm thinking skip the navi and buy an aftermarket head unit that works with an aftermarket backup camera. Good/bad idea? I don't think I'll have a problem finding a white 4Runner I want if I do that.

Yeah, avoid the XREAS. I really didn't like the ride either. Silver and white are the way to go in areas where the sun is really intense (CO, for example). It really keeps the car much cooler. I didn't realize the mileage was that high on the last one. Mine is a 2nd vehicle so was not an issue but 65k is great- I'll prob put on 10K a year max.

I've got 95k miles on my '03 with XREAS. It still isn't leaking. When it does start to leak, I'll just replace it with regular shocks. In the meantime, it leans less than a non-XREAS 4Runner in the turns. The cost of replacing XREAS with regular shocks isn't much different than the cost of replacing regular shocks with regular shocks.

Sorry, but I don't understand the recommendations to avoid XREAS in a used 4Runner. It's not like he's paying extra for it, as XREAS doesn't seem to impact the value significantly.

If you find a good 4Runner with XREAS, buy it. If you find a good 4Runner without XREAS, buy it.

yes but no one has had to replace factory tokikos with their non xreas trucks because they have leaked, never heard of that, only reason to replace tokikos is if you want something better or are lifting.


because it will eventually go out, you are the first person i have heard go as far as you have with it, good for you but it will go out and have to be replaced with something else
 
All shocks eventually wear out and have to be replaced. That's true of XREAS 4Runners and non-XREAS 4Runners. I have seen nothing that suggests that the XREAS shocks wear out faster than non-XREAS shocks. The only differences are that if you want to replace XREAS with XREAS, it will be expensive. So no one does.

I don't get what the big deal is here. I've owned my '03 since new. My XREAS isn't leaking. When it leaks, I'll replace it with regular shocks. If I had regular shocks and they started to leak, I'd replace them with regular shocks for about the same price.

And the difference is what, exactly? If you keep a vehicle long enough, you'll have to replace the shocks. So?

Both used ones I saw were leaking. I do not want to replace them right off the bat. That is why I avoided it. If I bought it new or knew I'd want to switch them fast anyway, it would be less of an issue.
