If you could take the production and shop quality of Speedy and the info/specs (only said once) from timmy and make videos like that it would be great.
Speedy - wish you did more time-lapse footage of you actually doing the work so I can see where things are going and so forth. And it is totally rude that I haven't been able to use your sop to work on my 4runner man! How dare you! :jk: ....... no but really I'll bring the beer if I can use your shop..... I have a set of full window vinyl decals you can put on if you want to make a how-to video....... OKAY FINE I JUST WANT TO RIDE THE DAMN COOLER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Timmy - PLEASE GOD PLEASE when you are editing your videos if you hear yourself repeating the same thing over and over just cut it out of final vid man! I have literally pulled hair out over it hahahaha. Other than that they are great, maybe better lighting
Both of ya, keep up the great videos as they are super helpful to guys like me that cannot afford to pay a shop to do these repairs, I just need the confidence from watching yalls vids

I used to shoot this stuff on a tape camera, no joke, and had to convert it over to AVI, to then convert for YouTube. The original time lapse install of the supercharger was done before I even had that, and it was done with a Canon 10D (anyone remember those?) tied to laptop on a remote. I wish I had the stuff available now back then. Way easier now and you can focus on the details like dialogue, sound quality, lighting, etc.

I have watched Speedy vids and Timmy vids + a million other vids of course.
I also started a youtube channel of my own... I have no intention of becoming a broadcast quality content provider, I'm just some random old guy now days, I'm good with that. it is a ton of extra work doing the vids, but I like to try and show people "what your getting yourself into here"
I prefer Timmys vids a little more in general than yours, and yes I have watched most vids on both channels. I just prefer more details than skimming over things. I really see it as a subjective opinion, some people like certain kinds of content. The funny thing was when I did the tundra brake upgrade deal I watched both the speedy/timmy vid on the subject and I felt like I knew exactly what I was getting myself into so both had great value from that point of view.

I think your asking the wrong question. if you want to make the perfect 4runner/car/hotrod youtube vid then the answer is it does not exist. there is no perfect vid, there are only perfect vids.

You're right, there is no perfect, that's not why I started this thread. Just more so to chat about various ways of doing things and why we as YouTube channel owners might consider them. My buddy's VERY successful channel does not show anyone how to do anything. It's literally him just going to car shows, driving to work and chatting about various things, etc. You'd think learning something would trump just goofing around, but definitely not the case from what I've seen.
I appreciate the feedback, and it seems I skimmed over things in my Tundra brake upgrade video. I did that one a few years ago, can you give me some examples of details you would like to have seen that I didn't show? I've worked on cars since I was old enough to hold a wrench and have an engineering background so I may take some things for granted that others find necessary.
I did it in 3 parts
Rebuilding the calipers that I got cheap from the junkyard
Painting them to spice them up a bit
Finally, the install
What's your channel? I'd like to take a peak at some of your work.

my primary purpose behind why I post vids to youtube is really to remember what I did, my production quality is low and I'm clearly not in it for the big$$$.
I'm going to start with the things I really like about the tundra series.
I love the brake bleeder deal... actually used that idea to build my own. outstanding. also the vac plugs on brake lines, perfect.
the things that are noise to me.
I don't really need to rebuild or paint my own calipers so... that is really not interesting to me at all. but for some I'm sure it's interesting. so this is just a NA to me. not good, not bad.
I can't find any fault with your process it's very standard here is how to install rotors and pads, cool new lines.
I'm also an engineer so I'm really interested in the braking system in a general sense. how do these larger pads effect the ABS system? There are some people out there who are very critical of this aspect for trucks with ABS and after running the tundra brake upgrade I'm ready to revert back to stock because I honestly think it's dangerous with an ABS truck. I have a 2000 and have had some lockups, that was not the case before the upgrade.
From the engineering perspective why slotted rotors, I get it they look nice and are machined well.
Engineering Explained did a great vid on brake rotors, again why slotted? I really don't see an advantage to slotted and maybe even some disadvantages? They do look bad ass and that is a thing. I'm all for looking bad ass.

is the tundra upgrade really a good idea?
I live in snow land and having a balanced ABS braking system is really a game changer on road. anybody that tells you they can brake better and faster with their ABS disabled is not a thinking person. off road different story and the numbers show it, ABS off road is a mixed bag and more bad than good. NTSB has some numbers and it does not look good for ABS off road at all.
so I guess I have to give you kudos on the video but... if it's a great idea or not? until you have to emergency stop and your fronts lock up? the little girl next door rides out into the street from behind a tree and you have to stop?
I used to jump right off the cliff on things but I'm getting a lot more cautious because I think we are running things out of spec and it was never really tested. it just seems like bigger is better, but I'm pretty sure it's not.
I know I know... I have seen some pretty sketchy stuff... used to hang around big mud trucks back in the big foot days... so maybe I'm way to nip picky in my old age but I do have to question the entire tundra brake upgrade.

So I'd prefer to keep this topic related to YouTube specifics if we can. I thought maybe I had skimmed over items that were needed, but sounds like maybe not, and perhaps provided extra info like rebuild/paint that some might find useful and others not. That would lead me to think breaking the video up in to those respective parts was a good idea so thanks for the validation on that (I think).
Interestingly the painting video is one of the most popular at 600,000 views with the rebuild just behind it at 400,000. The actual install only 74,000, which tells me the more general the video and less model specific the more applicable it was to folks' individual needs for information. Just some interesting metrics to consider.
I will take quick moment to talk about ABS....mine has worked fine since the change over. Tested it thoroughly 2 weeks ago in the ice/snow, and I'm unclear how changing the pads would affect ABS since it's wheel speed monitored.
The slotted rotors dissipate heat and increase braking performance by allowing gasses to flow out as temps rise. Would you see any real benefit driving around on the road everyday, unlikely, but they were roughly the same price as solid rotors and like you say they do look nice. The rotors on my Hellcat came from the factory slotted as a reference.

Man you got that right, biggest pet peeve of mine is everyone with a cell phone now things they should run a YouTube channel showing people how to do "whatever" and 8 out of 10 times they are clueless, shaky video, terrible audio, and just horrible period. I'm actually very particular in who I'll subscribe to or even consider as a result.

I just barely started a channel so I can't critique too much... but.. I do watch a ton of YouTube videos! I do it not really as a how-to but more as a project log and something to enjoy years down the road for myself and my family.. nothing professional but if we are all having fun doing it then awesome. Each channel noted here I watched and I saw good and bad things.. well not even "bad" just things that aren't as appealing as others. The biggest thing that draws me to a channel is personality and someones ability to make something normal seem interesting! Its a lot of work so hats off to you guys and keep up the good work!

This is a BIG one and something I have to personally keep in mind especially since a lot of mine are strictly tutorial.
