I just had a Z1 installed a couple of days ago. How long does the radio update the maps or the navigation?

ZI Owner

I'm a ZI owner, I'll ansewr any ?'s you might have to the best I know. The radio doesn't update the GPS location. A DVD does. For the ZI to update there will (I assume) be an update disc at some point...

Your install looks questionable...

My bluetooth is up in the upper left (above driver) headliner.
Looks really good. The XM and GPS might send cross signals causing interference. I have my GPS on the left hand side and XM on the right... My XM has a lot of static from Ohio to Michigan (Bad areas). I don't know if it would be better if the XM was somewhere higher.

No word yet on any update disc for the z-1. But I wouldn't expect anything till next year. Lets just hope they are less expensive then the update discs for the older "N" and "D"model navi unites. Here is a link to Pioneers Navi site where you will probably first hear of a z-1 update disc.

www.drivehappier.com

BTW if it hasn't been mentioned. Pioneer is running a deal right now...buy a AVIC D2 and get a free AVIC S1 (new portable navi unit). This is only available through authorized Pioneer dealers.

How come "updating" is there when Im on the map screen? Located at the right side( i'll try to take pics). I also inserted the disc that came with the D2 but the Z1 couldn't read it, weird.

You think that the GPS and XM are causing interfernce? I never thought of that but I'm not having problems on both so I think it wont matter. I'll contact Pioneer customer support just to be safe.

Updating... I don't know I saw what you mean. When you find out let us know. It wouldn' be updating the GPS, the GPS is only on a disc. Maybe it is updating the XM possibly.
My XM, GPS is working good. The GPS great and the XM ok. I get a lot of static is some areas. I don't know if mounting it higher would help or not.

Yup GPS is great. Playing with it last night, I didn't know that you could look up a restaurant near your area without knowing that it existed, by just narrowing a search, then it ask you what type of food and it shows you a couple of options. Its great, defenitely worth the money

ZI

Yes it is pretty cool. If you check gas stations and the icons show up and you can touch them and it tells you what brand it is.
Bad points, you can't change a lot of things while you drive...

Not sure what things your speaking of but their are many ways to overide the Z-1 while driving asfar as seeing the display and using the map. I am a Pioneer rep so not in my best intrest to say but google might help.

ZI Override

Well I know of one flicking the lights during startup, but it gets old doing so. Any way to permentally do it? Its not like anyone will ever know its you if you tell us!
