yes they are gen specific these are far from universal. pictured below is a 2nd gen hilux mirror.

as far as the cap i didnt recieve one with this but it shouldnt be to bad to aquire.

I meant as far as putting one onto your truck. The mirror you have is the 96-98 version (pre-minor change) so it has the one mirror instead of two and is smaller so a little less complicated than the post minor change one. If he wants it he CAN install is what I meant:juggle:. Just has to line things up right and not be afraid of some cutting. Make sure the rubber boot on the bottom has no play or wiggle room too and come up with something to cover the cap area.

i think you are getting confused with what he is looking for. he is looking for a 2 generation hilux surf mirror which i posted a picture of the second gen surf. the mirror is different and also the base when the mirror attaches to the fender. the shape of the second gen surf fenders are different than the 3rd gen and the mirror will not sit flush. this mirror will fit all 3rd gen 185 series trucks. the only difference is it was ment to be for a 96-98 truck to be period specific.
