Zerg fittings

I'm looking into replacing all my zerk fittings after trying to re-grease those fittings and the grease shooting out the sides between the grease gun nozzel and zerk fitting. I assume it's the zerk fittings that are bad so my question is will a 110pc metric zerk fitting kit be what I need?

You should be able to remove those with a very small metric wrench/socket... 6mm, maybe 7mm?

I found a 110pc kit for $13.00 so I was going to replace all my zerk fittings but I have a choice between SAE and metric. Are all the threads the same between the two except for the fact I would use either a SAE or metric socket to remove them?

Are you pressing on the nozzle as you press the grease in? Grease will shoot out the sides if you dont ensure you apply pressure on the Zerk fitting.

From my experience I would not replace them. The zerks that are in there are a weird fine thread zerk and are hard to find. I would try a new grease nozzle first. I bought a decent gun at the auto store and I could never get it to work right. After alot of frustration I bought a new end fitting for the gun for a couple bucks. It snapped right on and works perfect.

I'll try it again with putting pressure on the nozzle. The nozzle my grease gun came with has some sort of adjustment. By twisting the nozzle it seems to make the nozzle fit tighter on the zerk fitting. It this adjustment suppose to be tight?

I dont have adjustable fittings on my grease guns but I know that without considerable pressure on the zerks I cannot get grease in.

My family owns a tractor dealership and I deal with this issue EVERY DAY. The tip on the grease gun is most likely the problem. They are made very poorly these days and no 2 seem to be alike. Like other have mentioned I would get a new grease gun tip (or 2) and try that first. Just my 2 cents worth..

Back on topic. I've replaced my rear zerk fitting a few times from a set purchased at Harbor Freight. Not too hard to find.

FYI,

Most Grease gun tips are adjustable (mine is) so once you have the gun on the Zerk fitting, you can turn the nozzle and its gets tighter on the fitting = No grease loss.

i had this same problem over the weekend. i replaced the nozzle attachment twice (3 total attachments) and they all did the same thing. I was thinking I needed to replace the ZERKs too... i have greesed axles before... i was a truck driver in the ARMY. had to greese axles at least once a week if not more. it was easy and you did not have to put any a** behind the nozzle either. the greese should flow through with little effort.
