Zerks one more time (I promise)

I finally got off my lazy butt tonight and lubed my zerks. The problem is, I can only find 5. I've seen the picture somebody posted from a service manual, but I can't tell from the picture. From the picture it looks like 5. But I thought somebody said there were 6 for v6 4x4.

There are definitely six zerks. There is one on the rear driveshaft back by the rear diff, and there are two on the rear driveshaft up toward the transfer case (one for the slip yoke and one inside the U-joint).

It's basically the same set-up for the front driveshaft. There are two nearer the transfer case and one up front by the front diff.

I believe I may have seen the same diagram that you are referring to, and it is not applicable to the 4th Gen. The one that I saw depicts a double-cardan joint, which the 4th Gen does not have.

Below is a pic from a 2003 T4R FSM with the v8 engine. However, after looking at it I believe it is incorrect. I do not remember seeing three group together ("C")

I just did greased everything and do not remember the event exactly but Baba Booey's stated seems to be corrent about the placement.

I would crawl under there but the weather sucks for Turkey Day.

Also I did not jack the vehicle up for greasing. It is a tight fit but it can be done.

I found six Zerks total. Three on each drive shaft.

Front drive shaft: one at the front differential end, two at the transfer case end (1 for the U-joint & 1 for the drive shaft slip joint)

Rear drive shaft: one at the rear differential end, two at the transfer case end (1 for the U-joint & 1 for the drive shaft slip joint)

Yep, I believe that pic is incorrectly showing the older style front 4wd drive shaft, which isn't used in the 4th gen. If you look in the FSM, pages 30-3 and 30-11, you will see the correct pics for the 4th gen drive shafts, along with the correct zerk fitting locations.

Confirmed! I pic I posted is from the Maintenance Section (chapter 99)

I went with Mobil1 grease by the way. Amsoil would've been a good choice too, but I couldn't find it locally.
