How to make this site better?

But what it sounds like, is that you've got an axe to grind.

Agree... I'm wondering what thread generated his concern. The only one I see that SV started recently was about the gun issues in NYC, and that thread is relatively tame compared to other debates we've had.

That said, we've already been given the freedom to chose which thread(s) we read and reply to - limiting this ability would be counterproductive in the long-term and wouldn't foster the openness the O/T section allows.

I agree with you here which is a fairly rare occurrence. As I've been told more than once in the OT forum, nobody forces anyone to enter it or a discussion. If someone doesn't like it they don't need to go there. Personally I like the heated discussions until they get so far off track they devolve into foolishness which is when a moderator should step in.

Getting soft on us???????:caked:

For what it's worth, us moderators do quite a bit to help make this forum better. See the first post of this thread for proof. We all take time out of our day to improve the forum when we could be doing something else. We don't get paid, we rarely get any recognition (not that we ask or look for it) but one thing we always get is a finger pointed at us at any sign of trouble. I understand why and I'm ok with it. We don't follow a special set of rules, we follow the same rules as everyone else. If one of us mods get close to stepping on the rules we are yanked back by fellow mods and put back in line. As bofa said, we are still members of the forum like everyone else. We shouldn't have to stop ourselves from posting anything unless it violates the very same rules that we enforce.

At least we're in the right thread for this though. If there are issues please feel free to continue bringing them up and we will do what we can to fix it or make things better.

I always enforce civil discussions on this forum. It's very easy to get banned here because we don't take much BS on this forum.

That being said, I go crazy on Tacomaworld because they just slap your wrist and let you back on in a day or two.

I keep a level head here and I expect everyone else to. None of us mods abuse our power, and if any of us did, I'm sure the rest of us would stand up and knock him back into line, or revoke the mod status because they can't handle the "power". Just because I can ban you from this forum doesn't mean I'm going to. Just because I ban you doesn't mean the other mods can't raise a red flag and have me scolded and have admin unban them.

We are your friends. We are your peers. We are here to make sure this forum continues on as smoothly as possible! Respect us, respect your forum brethren, and we won't have any issues! Cause issues, and you'll be squashed.

Alright, I have to say it, I can't help it.... Big Brother is watching you!

Having been an admin/moderator I can verify that it can be a thankless position and thank all the mods for what you do here.

(except the one who gave me the infraction!) :caked:

I moderated the "hot chicks" portion of a 10k member forum and disagree. There were many likes and thanks, because boobs.

Well I'd just like to say thanks to the moderators ...

About 6 months ago there was a lot of discussion around the amount of modding that should be done, how strict to be etc.

I was concerned about over aggressive moderation but in general I've been pleasantly surprised by how smooth and easy-going things are going around here.

This is huge. Discussion is great. Calling each other names and getting into pissing contests isn't...

However, acting innocent/ignorant now is kind of unbecoming of a moderator, no?

I think if ndcent has a specific issue he should elaborate and back it up with talking points.

This doesn't seem unbecoming to me... unbecoming would be starting a thread, PM'ing a person about it, them replying with support and a counterpoint, and then PM'ing them again to call them an a s shole and promising to never "help" them again. Oh yeah, and then deleting all other member comments, making it a sticky, and locking the thread. Yes, that really happened recently (in another forum).

Oh, and the reason given for shutting down the hot chicks thread was because all the T&P&A "upset advertisers."

Not sure how the ads on this site work, but I just found, and clicked on, one for Frederick's of Hollywood. I doubt that they'd be "offended."

Methinks there's something more going on here.

Call me paranoid.
