On an unrelated topic, I do like the new notifications for post quotes but I find it glitches. Like today someone liked one of my posts but for some reason it sent me a post quote notification (as well as a 'liked' notification) when all he did was like it, he didn't quote anything. Also, not always but on the odd occasion I get a post quote notifications if I quote someone else as opposed to when they quote me.

It's not a big deal and I prefer glitches over not having the notifications at all, just curious if I'm the only one.

The only weird thing I've run into prob 3 times was receiving a quote notification and when I click on it, it was someone who quoted me over 2 years ago lol no bother though, I really like the notifications.

How does everyone feel about adding another sub forum that is strictly for shop and tool related information? Most people post information in the generation specific forums but we can consolidate the info in one thread and it will be helpful to everyone and not just those within that generation.

Maybe if we can get enough interest in it we can create a new addition to the forum?

That was all combined because 99% of that stuff was generation specific and was talked about in the generation sub forums.

That would be nice. Gonna have to give it some time to populate. [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] Paul has a nice tool thread - maybe you can put a copy of it in there. I know there are some other tool threads floating around along with some welder/welding and fab threads that could be thrown in the mix.

I don't see any way the forum or moderators could fix this, but I find it annoying when reading old posts, especially technical posts, and the associated photos are no longer available.

I realize we use external host sites for our photos and they take up some space, but not that much. Sometimes these old forums are useless after the photos go away. Posters should be encouraged to maintain photos for the benefit of future readers.

Bringing this back from the dead. I would like to see this forum use automatic image resizing where the maximum size is limited to the forum width. There are numerous add-ons that do it very effectively and eliminate the oversized images from pushing everything around like in this screenshot. Lower on this randomly selected page there's a big image causing what I'm taking about.

x2. An automatic line break between sets of tags would be awesome too - it's very frustrating trying to read a thread where some goof has stacked thirty images next to eachother and screwed the formatting all to hell. Thanks for looking, [MENTION=55855]zopperman[/MENTION].

On another note, the idea that moderators can't be posters is dumb. There's nothing wrong with a moderator taking part in a contentious thread, as long as there's no abuse of power and they're clear about when they're putting the Moderator Hat on.

I'm assuming that @ndcecent 's post was direct at SV who STARTED the thread, but if it was directed at me, I'll say the following.

That was me, as a member of the site agreeing with [MENTION=60018]CXS[/MENTION] on a way that could improve it.

If moderators just "moderated" we wouldn't be contributing members. You need to be a contributing member to be a moderator and vice versa.. No one is saying "agree with me or you're all banned" - I was just voicing my opinion that I agree and saying that I would look into it, I think picture resizing is a good idea. I don't think anyone contends that people uploading pictures that are 10k x 10k pixels is annoying and interferes with browsing the site.

The idea they're starting threads that turn into flame wars though seems way too gray an area, abuse of power or otherwise (which is so subjective anyways.)

I feel I'm being specific enough? This is a thread for suggestions.

I'm personally of the opinion it's unprofessional for moderators to start threads that will obviously produce unfriendly debate, ie politics, abortion, etc. Not that they should not participate, but initiating a topic with a decided bias is just simply improper. Abuse of power is totally subjective as well. If the moderator is with side "A" those of same side won't call it out and the moderator wouldn't admit it.

I'm fine with anyone disagreeing with my opinion, although I find it hard to believe I'm alone on it. No biggie either way.

Moderators are people, just like you and I. They are going to have opinions on all kinds of matters. You are free to agree, disagree, or ignore. We all put our pants on one leg at a time. You only have to tip your hat when you violate the rules and even then, its up to you if you want to push the envelope and risk the consequences of being banned.

I'm actually more irritated at the forums that act like mods are gods and above all else... it's like they forgot who generates their traffic. I'm active in a handful of forums under this screen name and others. The other forum I visit the most has gotten ridiculous. I've been on there for years and lately the mods have come down so hard on simple stupid stuff with other members that I've have knock-down drag-out arguments with them on the other user's behalf, but they won't ban me because they know I'm right. The only reason I still hang around there is to help others with matters I'm very versed in.

As far as professionalism goes, this is not a typical place of business. They aren't selling you anything and in a lot of cases make just enough to stay running. This is a discussion forum and we discuss things. I'm thankful that T4R allows us to discuss things that are frowned upon in other forums. This is "freedom" within reason.

People come and go on forums and are totally free to stop participating or to just avoid the topics they don't want to hear about. You can ignore members too if you are so inclined.

I am actually impressed at how "open" the O/T section is and welcome the discussions on a wide range of topics. Mods are very responsive when things go off the rails or violate the rules.

If you want to join a forum where censorship is abound and they delete discussions on sensitive issues and politics, PM me and I'll send you a few links.

There's not much I agree with [MENTION=55551]ndcent[/MENTION] on, but I see where he's coming from on this. That said, we've already been given the freedom to chose which thread(s) we read and reply to - limiting this ability would be counterproductive in the long-term and wouldn't foster the openness the O/T section allows. :juggle:

If you're just speaking in general as to how you feel a moderator should act then fine. I agree that mods need to carry themselves to a standard that should be accordingly with the responsibility.

But what it sounds like, is that you've got an axe to grind. If not then great. That's just how the post came across. If you do, then by all means, call them to the carpet and lets have us a witch trial and stop beating around the bush. There have been highly opinionated moderators in the past that have lost their position for whatever reason. If some moderator is acting unfitting, then by all means, let's get them squared away.
