poly body mounts would give me that squeek that keeps giving.

Just waking-up, but if I understand correctly, the ES kit being contemplated is 8.4110G (body mount bushings). It includes hardware, minus the bolts.

way good price considering the OEM toyota price is out of this world.

8.4110G is for 2000-2002 trucks

Energy Suspension 8.4111G BODY MOUNT BUSHING SET

is for 1996-1999 trucks so not the same kit and of course the 8.4111G is more expensive.

not sure what the difference is but it's different enough to have different parts.

I can also say that after 1 winter the energy suspension metal pieces will be rusted beyond belief so I will probably epoxy them if I decide to head this route.

Good call on the epoxy. I'm in CA and was thinking of treating them also...

As for the differences between those years, I'm not sure. Since there are other differences in those years, it's not surprising. If anyone would know, I imagine it would be Charlie.

Lol... sadly, yes I do. The late trucks (00-02 in this case) have a different style body mount at the a-pillar location (two bolt flange type, like the rear one) instead of the standard round bushing. Also, early ('96 only, I believe) are missing the b-pillar mount location. That mount has space in it and I think is mainly there for crash protection (holding the body in place during a side collision).

I've been wanting to get poly body mount bushings myself... I believe it will help on road performance (get rid of the secondary little shake that happens over some bumps). Stiffening up the rear mounts (either alone or as part of the whole kit) is necessary for rear aftermarket bumpers.

Working from home today, so I'll go look in the garage shortly. These would be off a '99, but I'm not sure if the bolts/hardware would be any different between years. [MENTION=78895]DeathCougar[/MENTION], as previously mentioned, is also a good source for something such as this.
 
9/10 of the bolts and 8/10 of the nuts. Let me know if you want them. I did reuse those funky-eared washers, so those wouldn't be included is the only downside :bigok:

I ordered the Toyota bolt/nuts for a 97, they are all the same across the years.

the frame I got from junkyard is a 98, had a back and forth with phattyduck on this one back in January I think. I noticed the frames part numbers on the mounts were different so I knew something was up. phattyduck pointed me in the correct direction.

my 2000 has a different style mount that bolts to the frame A-pillar like phattyduck says, so I think I'm good with the older style mounts.

I was happy when I found the 98 frame but now I'm locked into the old body style as well. not sure if I newer body would fit without shims or something onto an older frame. that project is next year.
 
transfer case adapter back on solid footing

I busted off one of the transfer case bolts and it was beyond extraction. I tried pretty hard to get it out.

I pulled a spare off one on my pink milk shake trans, glad I kept those laying around. cleaned it up and replaced the bearings, breather, and seal. cleaned up the housing and seal packed it. 25 ft lbs torqued and sealed back up to make sure nothing gets in there. baby steps.

labor day happen and it was very good. got to do some offroading up north @ spider lake trails and also stayed right on my favorite lake.

engine + trans+ case are back in and mounted up.. need to lookup torque values and complete that but everything fits like a glove and is snug.

yes those are honest to god brand new out of the box valve covers.

engine work pretty much wrapped + mounts + steering rack hell

I finally got the Energy suspension kit... it came from FL and that pesky hurricane messed up shipping.


I can say it's a bit confusing but really not the worst thing and everything seemed to fit where it was supposed to fit. once I figured out the part numbers where actually stamped on the bushings it was easy.

the engine is complete except for the water pipes up back but those are pretty easy.

started cleaning up the rack. the SHAFT ASSY, STEERING INTERMEDIATE, NO.2 is a biach to get off. had to use the press and it still did not want to come off. I ordered a new one from Dubai so I have a bit of time to wait for it. I don't think the existing rack leaked at all and the inner ties are still nice and tight but it needed a good blasting so I will have to a paint the steel parts once it stops raining outside.

I hate silicone tape. I could never really find the magic trick into getting the first wrap really tight and bound.

I love the idea of it though, if I could use it to it's max potential.

Got any tips on how to keep it tight before heating?

I never had any trouble getting the first wrap nice a tight. it sticks to it'self and nothing else. at least this stuff does. I do use 2 clamps in my vice to suspend the section I'm taping so I have both hands free to work on the wrapping part. also don't stretch it so it distorts. it did take some practice but I really like this stuff now. it really stands up to the heat and protects the wires.

Absolutely amazing. I wish your sketchy build project was a Web or TV show it would have thousands of viewers. I am always inspired to do more every time I read your thread. I've been wanting to renovate a camper parked on my in law's property for the past year and find the project daunting. Wish I had this kind of gumption.
 
I will have to give it another shot. I really like what it has to offer but maybe I'll do the vice trick. I used it when hardness were in the car lol so I may have to get innovative there

I really like making vids but I'm terrible at it. it takes a lot of planning, scripting to make things go smooth. then editing it and getting the sound muxed in so it's useful. it's almost like it's hard enough that people have professional jobs doing it?

I totally love Bad Obsession Motorsport on youtube they do a great job.

I considered making this a vid series but I need to get it done before winter and filming it and making it watchable would take me way more time than I have available.

I understand what you mean but your writeups provide insight and the pics of the build show the anatomy of the truck other wise hidden. I am like Cramer watching an operation with junior mints. so keep it coming.

I blasted the rack to clean off the rust and rattle canned it. got some new bushings and a new linkage. I like re-using the old toyota tubes, don't like those ones that come with the kits.

frame swap done (kind of)

so I was all jazzed up on goofballs during the frame swap so I did not take any pics @ all. lucky I had a friend along and he took a couple so this is all I got.

it went really smooth and everything fit like a glove. now I need to put the rest of the truck back together.
