Intermittent JOLT when coming to a stop

I support the transmission fluid idea. I haven't done mine yet., Maybe when I hit 200k this spring.

I noticed that I can feel it about to lurch or bump as I come to a stop, or feel like it'll click as I start from the stop, but if I put it in neutral it'll bump without pulling the car. Sorta indicating that the transmission wants to stay in 2nd gear instead of going down to 1st.
 
To grease the driveshaft slip yoke on my '04 I just pump it 25 times or more with my grease gun to make sure it gets the entire internal spline. Then I remove the zerk fitting to let the excess grease ooze out and drive up & down my driveway once or twice. This will prevent the yoke from locking up from too much grease.
Replace zerk fitting after that.

As the owner of the thread has posted the solution to this jerk is low/dirty tranny fluid. I had greased the driveline, and it made absolutely no difference. There is lots of debate on how to grease the driveline properly but I feel like even if you don’t grease it properly you would still feel some slight improvement. So if you grease it and there’s no change, chances are that it’s not a driveshaft issue. Another way to tell is by trying to come to a hard stop in neutral, if it’s driveshaft related you will get the clunk, but you won’t have the clunk in neutral if it’s tranny related. So then I was trying to recreate this issue I had with the jerk and it would get so severe sometimes that I would lose throttle after the jerk. I had recreated it to the point I lost throttle again and checked the code reader I had plugged in and it popped out a p2714 code as a stored code. I ran the code through prodemand and all the fixes were either low/dirty tranny fluid or bad solenoid. I figured since it was intermittent its most likely the fluid level since it probably loses fluid pressure on hard stops as the fluid gets pushed around too much. So I just drained and filled the tranny 4-5 times and made sure the level was good by sitting it level and getting it up to temp and checking the overflow plug while the truck is running. It fixed my issue entirely and also the truck just seems to drive much smoother.

It's an intermittent issue right now. It'll get worse over time.

Here's what you need to fix:
A common complaint is the trans-mission
falling out of gear when com-ing
to a stop, sometimes so harsh that
it feels like someone has rear-ended
you. This happens because the trans has
fallen out of gear due to low pressure,
caused by a faulty SLT pressure sole-noid.
The ECM then ramps up the pres-sure
to max and it slams back into gear.
Replace the SLT solenoid is the fix for
this concern.

By the time I had found this article, I figured my trans was long gone because it did so many other strange things... I didn't think it was worth throwing more solenoids at (I had already replaced two others). I got a whole new trans instead.

If your problem is still intermittent, it may still be okay.

Well I can see what you’re saying the low pressure can be caused by a bad solenoid, I agree with that but also low pressure can be caused by low fluid since there just isn’t enough fluid to build pressure, I’m fairly certain it was just low fluid since the issue went away entirely, and overall with just regular driving I can feel that the transmission doesn’t struggle to build pressure during hard acceleration and such. The truck has 360k kms and I got it less than a year ago and haven’t touched the tranny, and who knows if the previous owner touched it either so it’s very likely that it was just time for some fresh shifty juice. Also I have to say I’m surprised how affordable it was to get a new tranny put in, I assumed if it was actually a bad tranny it would be so hard to find a used one. Especially with how hard it is to find body panels used for these things. It took me a few months to find a replacement trunk for example. Anyways that’s neither here nor there, thank you for your insight my friend.
