Want to buy either a 2nd or 3rd gen 4runner, suggestions? opinions?

Hey, I'd like to get a V6 4x4 4Runner for hopefully around 7-8k. This leaves me with either a late 2nd gen or maybe a 1996 3rd gen... I've heard the third generations ride better, have a little more power etc, what's your take on the differences? Are they noticible? Worth an extra two grand or so? I will be using it as an everyday driver around Tampa but also for towing a 16ft jet boat and hopefully some light mudding along with light off-roading. I'm interested in what you think as owners, thanks for the help.

Lots of differences.

Biggest for me is the interior space. I'm not overly tall at 6'3" and I just don't fit very well in a 2nd gen.

You will also have significantly better power, ride, and towing with a 3rd gen, plus it's just a more comfortable truck and gets better gas milage.

Easily worth the extra IMO. Of course, anything I'm not comfortable in is worthless to me. You'll have to drive them and see if the 3rd gen's advatages are worthwhile to you.

Don't forget that the 3rd gen 4runner is also a lot safer than 2nd gen...just look at crash test results.

My first new car was a '94. I liked it a lot, but I have to admit liking the 2000 I have now better. It's bigger, more powerful, and a bit better mileage.

I think it's worth the money to go 3rd gen especially if you're towing. Even in (flat) Florida, you have to accelerate, and the hills near Orlando on US 27 are enough to slow a 2nd gen towing a 6x9 trailer with furniture. The 3rd gen tows much better.
