This video is a "how to" video to programming your 3rd gen 4runner key fobs to your 4runner. Hopefully it helps

Btw... I'm in love with that white runner you got there. Did you paint the flares?...

Thanks bro. It hailed here a few years back and I replaced the hood with the sport hood and got the whole truck repainted at maaco. Was cheaper than keeping the 2 tone. So yes I had everything repainted bright white.

No, some 3rd gens had a different fob. My 98 had a grey two button fob and some had a black two button fob. I think the years with those were 96-98 and then in 99 the three button with the window switch was introduced

I'm not sure if this process works for those older key fobs. You can always try. If it doesn't work then no harm.

Has anyone ever had trouble just getting the truck into programming mode? I have attempted the process at least ten times with no luck. All the threads I search are all in regards to issues with the remotes themselves. I haven't even gotten far enough to know if I ordered the correct FOB!

2000 SR5. Integrated security system (no ecu under the seat). I only have the metal key with no transponder.

This process will not work with the older models. The older models were, at least my 98 was, much simpler. All you had to do was press a green button on the alarm control unit under the drivers seat for 3 seconds I believe, and then press the button on your remote. There was a different process to wipe paired key fobs.

If anyone needs more detailed info and steps for the older models I'm sure I could dig up however I did my old one. There may also be a thread on here for it.

Just an update in the event that it helps someone. I ended up "helping" the door locks during the cycling process but pulling up/pushing down on the indicator on the door. I didn't notice that you driver door lock was a little weak. This solved my issue and the remote programmed perfectly after that.
 
I have done everything to try to get my 2002 4x4 limited 4runner key programed and it still will not take my new keyless fob ment for (hyq12ban/hyq12bb/,hyq1512y) replacements .

-will go into program mode flawlessly"key in +out lock/ unlock 5 times , door close to open ,repeat lock/unlock sequence ,turn key on position twice pull key - locks will and do cycle once(locks the Unlocks)


But then when I press the lock and unlock buttons simultaneously fob , the locks imediatly cycle twice before I get a chance to hit the fob lock button for one sec, indicating that the fob was not programed

Now sometimes it does program but does not 100% work correctly it will cherp and lock and unlock , but then it will set the alarm off randomly then the key fob stops working all together and then the alarm is triggered

the only way to correct this is to erase all the fob remote in system ( same as programming but instead of 2 on position turns you do it 5 times (locks cycle 5 times indicating it has removed all key fob information)

Any ideas what could be wrong
(Just bought the 4runner trying to get everything back to oem. Shape)

I think my actuators are close to dead. i'll try to help them along but it may be time to crack into the door and replace that actuator.
 
Need help with clearing keyless remotes and adding new

I am desperate and can't seem to find the info I need here in Maryland. So, I purchased a mint condition 2001 4Runner last month. I have one functioning key fob, which is NOT an OEM fob. I am trying to program additional remotes. I have confirmed with North Coast Keyless that the additional fobs I purchased will work for my 4Runner. I can get the vehicle through the programming sequence and all the way to where the locks cycle and the vehicle is awaiting the sequence of button pushes from the fob itself. I go through the key fob steps and the vehicle just won't accept any new fobs. I have even purchased another set of fobs specifically for FCC ID HYQ1512Y. I am being told by a couple locksmiths that the vehicle is most likely maxed out on key fob entries on the ECU. Do you guys know if there is a way to clear these out to make room for a new set of fobs? Or any other advice? I am seeing on some forums that there is a green button of some sort on the security module located under the driver seat... and pushing this button while pushing the lock button on the remote can be used to add a new fob. I don't even know if my 4Runner has such a module under the driver seat. My vehicle is a 2001 4Runner SR5 v6 3.4L

Same, minus the functioning remote.

Mine is a 2002 with an RS3200 alarm, under dash. I can get the car to go into programming mode but when I press the buttons on the remote nothing happens. I've ordered three or four different remotes and it's the same thing with all of them.

Definitely interested to see if anyone has any suggestions.
