99 Limited w/recent 3" lift 285 Nitto's slight rub Wheel Spacers???

Just put lift on my (4th Runner) 99 Limited that I scored last year for $4250 at reasonable 153k miles. Lift consisted of FJ80 rear coils to replace originals and aluminum spacers in front along with some new 285 75 16 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Looks great but slight rub on A-arm. Should I do 1" spacers and if so, where is best and cheapest place to get them. Also, how about those running boards-loose them or keep em. I can't decide. I live in NE Ohio and it sees alot of salt and rocks in the winter so could not decide what to do. Keep em for the added protection or loose them for the looks??? By the way, rides great with lift, no dissapointments. I did add some tinted window visors too today and plan to put the front diff drop kit in also. May powder coat rims black next! Any thoughts???

check out burtmanindustries.com, he has the spidertrax spacers in stock, which I've heard are the only ones that work correctly on our trucks
 
Thanks, other guy's reply linked me to same Spidertrax spacers. They are however about $98 a pair. I saw a complete set of 4 on eBay for $119/free ship. Both Billet Aluminum and can't see how much difference, but what do I know about spacers?
 
1'' would work but i rather not have the tires stick out that far 1/4'' seems to be working just fine for me

Here are my 2 cents......

I love the look of the Running boards and the flares on your Runner. 1) They help protect the lower part of your doors and rocker panels (I don't have them, and have tons of small pits in the paint on those spots) 2) I find they just look better!

Also, I wouldn't powder coat those wheels, I find they look great the way they are, (but I like silver or polished wheels) If you really want a black rim, why not just put down some cash on some wheels with a 4.5 inches of backspacing?? You won't have to buy spacers, and could use the money that you would have spent on spacers and powder coat, and just find a wheel that you REALLY like??

Again, just my 2 cents.........

could you tell me what brand,type,size spacers you have on the front? The lift matches nearly perfect to the fj80 coils. Also, do you know what year your 80 springs are from? Hows the ride quality? what shocks you running in the back? sorry for all these questions , i am getting 285's this weekend and need to lift , was going with fj80 coils but wanted to put spacers in front until i can afford coilovers.
 
yeah, wheelersoffroad.com have 1/4'' spacers for 5.00 a piece, i think thats all you'll need, but i'm no expert? i just ordered a 3'' lift today, i am plannin on selling my 265/75s and buying some 285/75s, and i heard that the width on the 285s are super close to the control arm on factory 16x7 wheels, so i am just gonna get those 1/4'' spacers, should be fine. soon as i get it all done i'll post a pic. maybe that'll help.
 
I know this thread is ancient as hell, but I am glad you revived it.

I have the Tundra wheels and they sit in a bit more than conventional 4Runner wheels do. I just ordered 4 of the 1/4" wheel spacers. Cant wait, and for $20, who gives a damn!

I hope the tires will line up better with the edge of my new flares, they're a little tiny bit sunken in ATM.
 
I believe the .25" plate spacers like wheelers offroad sells work ok.....its the bolt on spacers like spidertrax and all pro that aren't hub centric and lug centric that don't work. Most people do Spidertrax because they're hub and lug centric

If I remember correctly, there was a thread about someone who put spacers on and had horrbile shakes when driving. I think they were all pro spacers because they make a few different versions, not positive though

I see.

About your second part, I have a feeling it was just one of those people that don't know much about anything, probably torqued down the lugs without doing the crossing pattern. While some probably get away with that with just the wheel, adding an adapter adds another wobbling medium. They then incorrectly bolt a wheel to an incorrectly bolted adapter... 2 wobbles don't make a non-wobble

yeah I tried searching and couldn't find it. All I remember is that the spacer didn't have the lip on it like the Spidertrax does to fit the center bore of the wheel onto (hub centric).

At least I think so. I could be totally wrong. Wouldn't be the first time. :redbrick:
 
Elton, you're running stock studs, right?

So if I run a 1/4" spacer, I can use stock lugs and everything and not have to worry about enough thread contact?

Spidertrax is NOT the only ones that work correctly on our trucks, I have trail gear wheel spacers and they work fine.

Got my 1.25" Trail Gear wheel spacers from Savage off road
Toyota Aluminum Wheel Spacers

Went with Trail gear since they are cheaper than the Spidertrax, and if needed they offer sizes from 1"-3".

You really should run longer studs, I had a .25" spacer on my Tacoma and I was snapping wheel studs left and right becuase there wasnt enough thread, I just dont trust them anymore. I found that the rear wheel studs are longer, they arent a .25" longer but they are definitely better than just throwing spacers on the front without doing anything. I would either get some wheels with a 4 inch backspace or go all out and run a 1" bolt on spacer. Thats just my 2 pennies..
