Update on the driver seat movement on 03-05 Runners

I took my 05 SE to the stealer yesterday for an oil change, had a free coupon, and I also had them look at my drivers seat as I have the problems everyone else is having with it moving. The service manager told me that the rep came in and looked at my truck. Toyota is well aware of the problem and that it appears to be the frame that attached to the vehicle itself that is causing the problem. They redesigned it about 4-5 months ago and sent a bunch out to solve this problem. The movement in the seat was still there and they are now currently working on a newer version to eliminate this problem. He told me to check back with him in about 6 months so I will try again in December. Maybe it can be my X-mas present, a seat that doesn't move while driving. One can dream can't they? Just an FYI for everyone...

Thanks for the seat update....my 05,6000 mi has this same problem as I have posted before. I have not gone to the dealer yet to complain but will on next visit. Its good to hear that they at least acknowledge there's aproblem. I figured they would just blow me off.
I kinda feel I better learn to live with this cause the chance of them doing anything looks slim. However I will complain to them.

I too have the seat problem on my 05 Sport. Thank you for looking into it. I brought it up at my last oil change, and they verified it, writing down "no fix at current time".

Just as long as everyone does bring it up at their regular oil change or anything like that. They just need to document it and the more documentation they have hopefully the quicker a fix will be available.

Different Kind Of Seat Problem

Different Kind Of Seat Problem....

My driver seat when going around corners and my weight is pushed to the side/back of the seat makes a popping/click sound and kind of has a "give" to it in the Lumber portion of my seat. Is anybody else having this problem???

That is the same popping/clicking I have, but not really in the lumbar area. I can replicate the sound sometimes by lifting from the front bottom of the seat upward when not seated in in. I get this sound from both forward and side way motion when seated, though not all the time. Even shifting my weight causes the popping sound.

I have the same type of popping, but for me it occurs mostly when getting into the truck below my left leg.

Yeah sounds like the same thing but I can feel it in my back and it feels like the lumbar "balloon" shifts around. I thought about seeing if I could remove the seat cover to see what is going on. I will have talk to Toyota next time I take it in for an oil change and see what they have heard.

Is there a TSR number for this seat problem I can tell them to reference?

Toyota is acknowledging the problem with the seat moving but not the popping. Does this only occur on the cloth seats or is the problem more wide spread effecting also the power leather seats?

It only affects the SR5/SE. Limited is uneffected because of the power leather seats.

Has anybody priced out what it would cost to replace the sport model cloth manual seats with the power heated leather seats on the LMT?

Almost immediately after a pop I can feel something under my feet in the floorboard moving, or relieving itself of pressure. I agree, sounds like it is the mechanism that attaches to the frame that is the problem. It isn't so much the seat, but the infastructure brace that attaches the seat to the vehicle.

I am out of warranty, so I guess I'll just have to live with it.

I do have the SR5 with cloth seats. My problem seems to be only in the back of the seat. I haven't experienced any other problems like everybody else has mentioned.

As with your Runner being out of warranty, I would think that you could fight it due to it being a safety issue if you were in an accident. The seat could become dislodged from the track or something causing more harm then good. That is the angle I would bring up with the dealer. If it

If you brought this issue up before the warrantee ran out and it is documented like "don't have a fix for customer complaint" and they didn't fix it or better said they didn't have a fix and now they due, they will most likely still deal with it at no cost. This is at least what happened with my Lexus.

Leather, No problems here

I have an 03 Liminted, power leather seats, never had any noise issues. I sympathize with you guys with the noisy seats, because having an issue that has no resolution blows. I hope Toyota comes through for you.

I get the popping sound on my 05 SE too. It feels as though after shifting weight from getting in or going around a corner the seat pops for lack of a better word. It seems like the spring in the seat is flexing .Thats just part of the problem....I can move the seat up and down about 1/8 in and thats the other problem ...its noisey. This is only the drivers seat.
Are we being to picky or what....Like I've said ,I don't think the dealer will do a thing about these seat problems. But we have to comlplain for sure.
No issue yet with back of seat.

It's strange, on my '05 SE I haven't really noticed any movement yet. But on my '04 SR5 it was horrible, and they both have the same seat design and frame so I wonder if some are worse than others? I brought this to the attention of the GM of my local dealership last year and he said I was the first person to complain about it.

I have an '05 SE with cloth seats and have this problem too (driver's seat shifts/pops, especially when turning). It's an obvious problem because I can grab and shake the bottom of the seat while standing next to the truck, and there is clearly a rattle, but when doing the same on the front passenger seat, it's rock solid. I thought it was something as simple as a loose bolt, but apparently not. Seems like one of those "minor problems" that Toyota is hoping people will eventually decide they'll have to live with.

I went to the dealer ...waited for an oil change and told them about the problem and they acted like I was the first person to complain. I told them there was a TSB but I didn't have the number with me so they looked it up and didn't find it. It seemed to me it was a half hearted attempt to look . So I blew off the oil change and will go back with the number on next change. Did the oil change myself ,I was pi---- off but really ,I didn't expect much more from them. I wonder how many of us have this problem...not a lot of response on this forum. Might have to learn to deal with this one. Frankly,dealer service in this area is poor. they just sell to many cars and haven't gotten the message yet that customer service will bring you back to buy again.
