Toytec 3" spacers and coils ordered, rims decided..help with tire size PLEASE!

Hey all,

Ordered and received my Toytec 3" spacer with rear coils. Going on my 05.

I really like the Ultra Gauntlets in 18x9 12mm offset 5.47 backspace.

I'm 100% stuck on tires. I have it narrowed down to 2. Problem is I really want this to look just right ya know. Not to big, not to small. not sticking out, or in. Just right.

Nitto Trial Grappler..
Sizing 275x70x18 or 285x65x18

Goodyear Duratrac
275x65x18

Guy at Tire Rack said the Duractrac's in the size won't fit an 18x9 wheel properly as they are fitted for 7-8" wheels.

First off do you agree with that? I wouldn't want them to look stretched. Second in regards to the Nitto's which size with you agree would look / FIT correctly?

Appreciate any help as i have not done a single thing at work over the last two says other then look at every page of the tire and lift thread and countless searched here and Google. I have a little OCD when it comes to this lol.

Just my $0.02...depends on what you're going to be doing with your rig. Both tires are capable offroad with the Duratrac's being a little more on road friendly (being an A/T tire, albeit an aggressive one). I was in the same dilemma you were in 5 months ago and went with the Duratrac's just because I wanted something that looked aggressive like a mud tire but handled on road like an A/T tire. I think the Duratracs are a great mix of both.

5 months in and I have to say I love the Duratrac's. If you're taking your rig offroad every weekend then the Trail Grapplers might be the tire for you. But if you're like me and only go offroad occasionally, I think the Duratrac's might be a better fit. And on the tire size, I'd stuff 285's in there if you can. You won't regret it. Good luck!

Thanks lol I never thought buying wheels and tires to could turn into a now 3 straight day project.

So for sure want a more aggressive look but I not a off roader. My truck is my daily to and from work and weekend in the park biking or to the mountains for snowboarding. After research I was ready to order the Duratrac's and that when the tirerack salesman told me in 275x65x18 they won't fit the 18x9 wheel. Messed up part is Goodyear doesn't make the duratrac's in 285! next size up is 295x65x18. The Nitto trail comes in 285x65x18. Im just unsure how 285x65 will look vs 275x70 or 65 depending on tire. Do you agree that 275x65 duratrac's won't fit on a 9" wheel?

They will fit just fine on an 18x9 wheel. You may have an issue with the bead popping off if the tires were aired way down for off roading. The circumstances would have to be just right for that to happen. From the purposes you've indicated, I don't see any problem there. Another problem you might run into is rubbing on the front fender liner, mud flaps and body mount. Easily solved with some trimming if you're willing to do that.

Agreed with what Dawg stated. That size tire will fit those rims but you'll have to be careful when airing down...I forgot about the rubbing, that's not a problem at all if you're ok with trimming some plastic. I even trimmed some off my front bumper so I now have no rubbing at full lock.

Thanks for the help. that does give me more confidence now. BUT looking at your truck......Jesus that nice. I actually came across your truck in the tire/ lift thread and def stood out to me. So you went with 17" wheels with 295x70x17. With the suspension lift i purchased would i be able to fit that combo? It just looks so good.

ok ok i hear what your saying. all good info. Question again would be in regards to fit. Do you think its going to look like the tire is stretched to fit the rim? that's the last thing i would want. Def want it to be flush or slightly surpassing edge of wheel.

I cant find any good pictures of 18x9 with the duratracs 275x65x18. Any one have one hanging around??

I would recommend you stick with 17" wheels. If not for anything else, more choices in tire sizes. If you're thinking about going with my current combo then you'll have to lose both front and rear mud flaps, trim a lot of plastic and chop the body mount.

Duratracs are a good choice for the type of driving you'll be doing. Great highway manners, great off road and great in the snow. And not to forget, they look great just standing still.

Yeah i figured you had a lot done to make that fit correctly. I think ill stick with what I've been looking at.

Tire rack has both the wheels and duratracs available. again though only in 275x65x18. i know i must sound like a broken record but I am searching for confirmation that they won't look stretched or just cheesy. im a fan of do it once, do it right.

They'll look fine. Here's a pic of my truck in its early days. Back then it was sportin' Cooper Zeon LTZ 285/60/18's on 18x9 American Racing ATX Artillery's. Close in size to what you're looking at getting. I agree with you on doing it right once. But it never seems to work out that way . Now I have those 5 tires and wheels sitting in the garage collecting dust after using them for about 3k miles.
