SR5 vs. Sport Edition

Can someone explain the difference between the SR5 vs. Sport edition, beside the exterior?

I am consider buying the 4Runner, but don't know which model to get, the Sport edition looks cooler, but I don't know what's under hood and any differnt on the supsension system?

The Toyota website has a useful model comparison chart.

If that's too much to sort through, the Sport Edition has the following additional features compared to the SR5:

- X-REAS suspension
- unique 6-spoke 17" wheels (SR5 has optional 5-spoke 17" rims)
- 17" white-letter outline tires
- silver roof rails (optional in black on the SR5)
- silver bumper trim (compared to body-colored on SR5)
- color-keyed, heated mirrors
- hood scoop (non-functional)
- dark charcoal cloth interior (stone and taupe on SR5)
- silver-trimmed shift knob
- telescopic steering wheel
- leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls (optional on SR5)

I think there was some debate on whether the SR5 comes with the same 13" front discs when it has the optional 17" wheels, but I don't remember the outcome.

The SR5 has an optional 3rd row seat, which is not available on the Sport Edition. Also, the Dorado Gold and Pacific Blue are not available on the Sport.

There may be additional differences in terms of the way your dealer orders options between the SR5 and Sport, but YMMV depending on the dealer and region. For example, some have reported that side-curtain airbags are available only via special order on the SR5.

When I was pricing out my new Runner a few months back, I was trying to make the decision between the SR5 and the Sport. If you price an SR5 with the available options that make it comparable to a Sport, you will see that the Sport is actually a better deal for the money. Personally, I think the hood scoop really give the vehicle a strong look. And, the 17 inch tires also make it look a little more "beefy". Also -- I like the XREAS shocks ... the ride feels much better with them.

I'm totally agreed with UoD. I bought 2005 Sport Edition back in April 18 and I'm very please with the way the truck performances. I think the Sport Edition is really a great package (just IMOP)

If in the future you want to lift you truck and do heavy off roading, the SR5 may be the better option. The X-REAS in the SE limits your options on what lifts you can do.

I pretty much bought the SE over the SR5 because like everyone else said, its a better deal as a "package" compared to getting an SR5 and adding options. Also to me the XREAS is worth it. The truck handles very well on road with it. I don't do any crazy offroading, maybe an occasional trail so a huge custom lift is not in my future. The XREAS still can accomodate a 3" lift and that is probably all I'll ever need.

The hood scoop and the SE unique 17" wheels differentiate the truck apart from the SR5/LIMITED...

Also, I wasn't prepared to shell out the extra money for a limited as I HATE leather....

This may be common knowledge but I found it interesting that on my local Toyota dealer's parts site they list the SE as "SR-5 Sport Edition" when you're choosing your model.
