Someone help me with the 2 different style's of grill on the 4runner.

So I love my 4runner to death and i'm driving around recently and noticing that a lot of 4runners have a grill on the front that matches the color of the car. Mine is Chrome. Which i'm not a huge fan of. I'm thinking to myself i'd really like to see if i can replace my grill with an OEM one to color match the car and then i realize that there are 2 different grill style's on the 4runner. I see them both on all models so i'm assuming it came down to the year of the truck. I guess my question is can i change the style of the grill on my truck from the pic on top to the one on bottom? or is the hood and everything different.

If the answer is no, i guess i'll just take the truck to a body shop and have my chrome grill painted to match the body. But i really do like the look of the more "Molded" grill better.

I just bought one from the dealer, coming from a Limited model 2006. If you take it to a paint shop, they are probably going to tell you it may chip over time on the chrome.

Which style grill do you have?

The short answer is no you can't change the first style for the second. The first style is used on '06-current 4Runners and the older style was used on '03-'05 4Runners. You'll notice the bumpers/fog lights are different as well.

But...you can get a new grill that isn't not chrome and matches the color of the body. See these links:

By just looking at the pics, I think its possible if you get the 1. 2005 headlight, 2. 2005 Grille, 3. the Trim piece below the headlight, and it might be a direct swap.

This guy is doing the opposite, he's upgrading his 2003 to 2006 grille
