im just wondering what is the gas mileage on your v6 T4R.
i have my 03 T4R v6 2wd (100k miles) with only 16mpg. is it kind of low?
i already got the K&N air filter on it. what else i can use to improve mileage on it?

Depending upon your driving environment & habits, that's not so far out of line.

The biggest factors around town are the weight of your right foot, and how often you have to stop & start.

On the highway, speed is the biggest factor. It takes more energy to push that much air out of the way, and over 65 or so start to become expensive.

See if you can locate a gas station/brand near you that does NOT screw up their gas with Ethanol. I recently switched to exclusive use of Hess, which is ethanol free around here, and gained about 1 mpg.

Fuel Economy MPG

On my V8 Sport 4x4 my city is 16.9 and if i keep it below 70 MPH I see roughly 20's. above 75 MPH is 19.7, displayed. Fiancee gets 15.5 in city.

Constant monitoring of tire pressure, easy on the gas and braking, I only use the air conditioning when I'm trying to cool the car off on my auto-start. Driving around in San Diego with moonroof and rear window down ain't bad.

The 4runner is stock currently. Planning on catbac, headers, and a CAI. Depending on $$$ for Dyno's I'd like to get a before and after. Getting married when I get back from Iraq so we'll see if/when I get to do all that. Out of all the big name catbac exhaust brands, Gibson swears up and down about one of their kits being great for increased fuel economy. Gibson's SUV swept side exhaust kit.

A well maintained vehicle is more efficient so if you don't really keep up with the maintenance here are a few places to start. If your spark plugs have been in for over 30k miles its time for new ones. This is also a good time to change the airfilter and inspect the charcoal filter. Change all oils to synthetics and keep them clean and fresh. Correct tire pressure. Have a front end alignment done. Ditch all nonessential items from inside vehicle. A lighter vehicle is more mpg friendly. Don't run aggressive tires if you don't have too. Same goes with wide tires and/or wheels. The list could go on and on. For what its worth I consistantly get 19-20 mpg city and 22-23 on the freeway with my 08 SR5 4x4 V6.

This is what I have done:

- mobil 1 0w-30 oil
- lubro-moly mos2 antifriction oil additive (used in Audi/vw cars)
- amsoil severe gear diff/transfer case oil
- 38psi in tires
- hydrocarbon filter removed
- trd dual exhaust

i've been getting around 20mpg on the highway and 15mpg in the city. Total avg about 17+mpg since I got the 4runner.

Try a lighter shoe. Hehehe but my v8 2wd can get anywhere from 15 to 19 city depending on my mood when driving.

Heh... I don't REALLY understand how oil works, in terms of the numbering and weight. I know it has to do with the temperature and how it flows, but I've heard that going lighter can be bad for your engine, and actually cause mpg's to go down. I was just curious as to what you've heard, and how that oil is working?

Excellent list. Definitely the air filter, tires, and alignment (if needed).

using 5w-30 or 0w-30 oil is fine in the 4runner. Using the latter will not cause mpg to go down, it just wouldn't be the best to use if you are in really cold conditions. You can't go wrong with any 5w-30 or 0w-30 full synthetic oil from mobile, amsoil, castrol syntec(German made), etc.
