Where to lube the sunroof and what lube to use

I apologize if this has been covered before, but I did a search and couldn't find the information I was looking for. I found the TSB fix for the squeak/rattle for the 4th gen 4R sunroof, but it doesn't say what type of lube to use (it just gives a part number) and it doesn't say how to lube it without pulling the whole sunroof apart.

With that said, does anyone know where I should lube my sunroof (on the tracks, in the tracks, what joints, etc.) and with what kind of lube? I'm not having any problems with it but I wanted to perform some preventative maintenance on it this weekend. What about around the rubber weather seal?

Yeah, I saw that thread. There is only mention of "grease" in the TSB and one poster mentioned using "synthetic grease". Could I use the Mobil 1 synthetic grease I use for my drive shaft or do I need a special grease???

IDK. Page two of the TSB says use a "kit" that includes grease. I won't hesitate to use a dab or two out of my grease gun...
 
I hate grease. It gets inside my fingernails and if you're not careful it could get all over the place. I use a silicone base lubricant (spray). And i spray it on the tracks from one end to the other. I also have the nylon spacers mod so that the moonroof will not rattle when closed.

I just put it on with a "Brush, Acid Swabbing" which is like a small paint brush.

Does anyone have a write up on how to perform the fix on the moonroof to get rid of the rattle?

What ever happened here? Did you figure it out?

The last time my sunroof was open was 2+ years. It got stuck open for a week. I had to physically pull it shut. It made horrible sounds and I finally got it to sit back in place. I haven't touched it since.

Recently, someone in my car just pushed the button, and the sunroof opened halfway before I pushed the button forward to close it. It seemed to work smoothly. Then it got me wondering if I could perhaps open it and lubricate it accordingly.


I'm wondering if I should take the risk. Or just continue without it being able to open. The tilt forward seems to work no problem.
 
Last summer I cleaned up rails and applied some fresh Mobil 1 synthetic grease. Sunroof started to slide a little easier. Just make sure you don't over do it or you'll have a grease all over your interior. Its a messy job and hard to clean in some areas
