PSA: Another aftermarket Remote starter/Alarm start thread. This one has videos

Ok, couple of question. First videos dont work on Apple movile products. Can you post over to youtube and share so they can be seen on my Ipad?

Second, installation. Installing the unit requires the cutting of factory wires to splice into alarm module, correct. No direct plugin capabilities without comprimising the factory wiring?

Third, what are the common upgrades and modules used for the system. I would like to remote start, have auto open, be able to roll down rear glass for dog, have bypasses on alarm when dog is in truck, mobile unlock, remote start and monitor.

have you run into an issue where the drone mobile sends updates when you use the key to start a vehicle every time and not when you use the app to remote start?

its getting annoying getting 10+ notifications every day she starts/stop the vehicle using the key thru out the day.

I have every thing turned off except alarm and remote start notifications.

in preferences I have only vibration confirmation

in the vehicle settings for that one vehicle, alarm trigger and remote start success is on.

engine on/off is turned off.

It's not a issue. It's in your app setting lol

I'm sorry. Why don't you try to view it from a desktop PC instead.

I might try and find some time to do that. I seem to only find a few minutes here and there to reply to posts and PM.

It is a really busy time of year for me. I'm doing 30 to 50 remote starts a week. I also do jobs on the road and at home for the customers that can't make it down to the shop. I'll try to do that, but I think it might be easier and faster to use a PC!

The install was very easy, the fortin is equally as easy since it is also a "all in one" unit. The programming for the blade al was ridiculous...push it in and turn the key on, wait for light, turn key off and done.

Over all it is a high quality product that works well. I love the ez-go access since I do not have the smart key. Compustar gives you the most flexibility with options and products ive seen, you can really cater the unit to what you need.

The last DEI products I installed were years ago and it was a wire by wire installation which is a totally different beast than a can-bus installation. The first remote start i had in the 4runner was a audiovox rs/flcan bypass. the bypass and alarm/remote start didn't like to play well together so the all in one units fix that.

When programming/installing - daisy chain the ez-go and remote transponder, the unit has two remote ports but they cannot be used simultaneously...this is where reading the chart helps as i didn't lol. The remotes or ez-go must be programmed for the controller to respond, this is not the case with fortin evo all/one as it can function without any rf kit and pull signals directly from can-bus. Also you must learn tachless mode before it will remote start.

If you use the ipad for your main browsing product you should look into the puffin browser...it supports flash and you could see the videos .

I also thought the install was pretty easy but I use to install alarms up to about six years ago. It really makes it nice that everything you need is in one unit. I didn't think the blade-al programming was too bad. Actually went pretty easy for me. Compustar's diagrams, some terminology and wiring guides are laid out different than DEI as well. I combed over it a few times before I started to familiarize myself with it. Because the blade-al works with can-bus so well, there are less wires to hook up.

It does seem like a higher quality system compared to DEI. A lot of flexibility and options to choose from.

I use to install DEI at my former job. DEI systems worked good for us for many years but quality seemed to slip in 2008-09. Our shop started having issues with not only the alarm/RS brains but also some bypass modules. It was a huge pain for us as an independent shop. During that time DEI didn't treat us the best either. It was one of the reasons I quit installing alarms altogether back then.

My favorite feature is the Drone Mobile app. I use it quite a bit. Makes the 2-way fobs unnecessary.

After using Puffin as recommended by another member works great! But cost about a dollar for six months of Flash. I am opposed to flash as it is security riddled, but that is another story. On to the meat and potatoes so to speak.

I like how this one is setup. Used to be an installer years ago so installation is not a problem though I have a few questions as it has been years and I am not familiar with these products or some of newer Immobilizer setups.

1. I assume the Idatalink module overrides the Immobilizer? If so how is this programed? Can it be done by an end user or does it need special hardware to program it?

2. I could not see as this was just a remote start system how is it interfacing with the factory alarm? Through the Idatalink module?

3. If one where to go this route what are the exact modules and parts needed? IE datalink model, compustar model, ez go, drone mobile,
Etc.

4. Does the drone mobile need to have a subscription for basic functions from the phone. I assume you would need to be able to receive a cell signal for it to function? Could be an issue in my area.

5. What would I gain by moving up to Alarm over the factory? Would it mostly be accessory ability such as glass break and other sensors. Capability to roll down windows, open rear hatch? If I where wanting to be able to roll down the rear hatch window for the times my dog is in there in her kennel or be able to open the rear hatch to let her out what Compustar parts would I need to do so and still have the remote start as well as what parts would I need to have to make this happen.

6. Any install tips,on these newer 4runner? Like I said it has been over 10 Years since I touched a vehicle. Alot has changed since then.

7. Does someone have a copy of the current wiring diagrams for the vehicle? Could look over at 12volt but thought I would ask. No longer have any subscriptions to look it up otherwise.

I think you mean it's super easy to program right.

Flcan and ads alca can both be used as stand alone and a rf kit can be added to it in some applications. Video with Lexus is such a application.

Learning tach is super easy. No tach less mode. Turn key on and hit remote start button.

1. No, I would flash it for you unless you buy a Web link updating tool and then sign up for a account that they voice verify and Google map your physical location.only after you get referral by your sales rep. Easy lol.

2. It's not just a remote starter. It's a data interface module that is not bypassing the immobilizer. It's interfacing with it. It literally talks to the vehicle via can bus. Sends all the commands that way.

3. Yes you nailed it. And add in some documentation, some notes from me. First time maybe 3 hours. 2 are reading and familiarization. 1 actually installing and assembly at most.

4. Great assumptions. Yes, but not voice like you are used to. Data service. It's small packets that can be sent 2g/3g/4G or lte. Off topic, but. ..look at the vending machines. On top there is a little black box. That's a machine to machine communication device. That's how the soda machine talks to home office to tell it's status. Same concept. That's why compustar choose the largest most reliable network, Verizon.

Subcription goes like this, first 3 months free then 50 per year or 120 for 3 for basic service and then there is premium services for additional charge. I'm not sure of pricing on that. Download Drone app to see current pricing

5. Another great question. You start with a remote starter. With all the other brands you stuck, if you wanted alarm later. Compustar, change some settings add siren, led, shock sensor. You done basically.

Rolling down window, I have not looked into doing that mod on a 5th Gen. Personally don't know how to do it since I was never into it that far.although I did do it on my 4th green where others have failed while using a aftermarket system.
6. Tips, yes you get them once my package arrives on your doorstep. Lol, it's real easy. It's like riding a bike, you never sorta forget how.

Hey compustar doesn't own me. If they did, I would not be on a public forum recommending someone I don't know to install them. That's just nuts. If compustar was like apple, they would be telling me I can't do this and that. ..go find a work around, well that's dei.

Dei told their customers they are no longer able to do 3x lock to start like in my video with the white TRD pro with their bypass modules. That's dei dictating what's going to happen. Compustar asks what would you like to see happen.

That's where the I mafia comes from.

Very true. I dont trust very many people to do electrical work. Lots of places always use the scotch lock wire taps, which I despise. I would rather crimp, solder, and seal the connection. I have done A LOT of wiring throughout the years, but never installed a security or remote start.

I might have a handfulmof these scotch locks in the shop that are from install packaging. I have never bought a box of butt connectors or scotch locks in my 12 years at my shop.

really, good ole strip, twist, solder and KEY is wrap with good 3m supper 33 tape!

if you installed before, dont get scared with this brand, its user friendly once you sit down and read what is going on!

Believe me, if this was any other brand. we would not be having this conversation!

I like that way of thinking. Although I have to say that i have never had a single issue with the crimp, solder, seal butt connectors from waytek.... they have solder inside the butt connectors and is made from a heat shrink material. So u crimp then heat and it solders and seals all at the same time.

Those are the only butt connectors I would ever use, but the old fashioned way is always great too

I have spoken to Steve on the phone about all the above concerns. I am planning to do the install myself, and although I have a ton of experience, I am still leery. Steve assures me that that it will not be a problem, and that he has notes along with install instructions that will make it easy. I will order soon, and attempt.. Crossing fingers.
