Which king shocks should I get?

Hey guys,

I'm narrowing the end of my lift research.

I plan on using a 2 inch toytec spring in the rear.

Up front, I plan on getting the extended travel king shocks with compression adjusters.

Questions:

1) Is there any reason to get the non-extended shocks vs the extended one?
2) Should I get the 550lb or 600lb front spring?

My truck has rock sliders and a prinsu design roof rack that doesn't weigh much.

I don't think I will be adding any bumpers or winches any time soon...

Thanks,
Chris

You only get the benefit of extended ones (more down travel) with aftermarket UCAs, otherwise stock UCAs will contact the coils.

On another note, IMO, it’s a wasted setup for only front KINGs as rears won’t keep up with the added performance. Do it once and do it right, add extended adj rear shocks too.

I’d go 550lb up front ASSUMING you won’t add steel bumpers or winch and if the toytec rears aren’t stiff

I am eating my own words here, but if you don't plan on doing the Baja 1000, a bilstein/toytec lift is more than enough to get you through 95% of the obstacles out there and is half the price.

Unless, you're buying it for the bling, then I would go big or go home and go 3.0s all around with adjustable resi's and some icon billet delta joint UCA's

I appreciate your input! We need more people like you for sure!
Could you please give more of your thoughts ?
So let’s say ,I want the best ride quality for both on and off road with a lift kit ,but reliability is my priority. However,a lot of people have said “buy once ,cry once.” “do it right the first time,so you don’t need to upgrade it later “.
So if that was the case ,would you still consider billy 6112 or 5100s over Kings for people like me who use their 4runners as daily drivers and take the trucks to go on some trails on the weekends?

If reliability is your priority, I would go with Bilsteins.

Race shocks require a lot more maintenance.

^wise words

I am pretty sure @Gabex35 was being a smart ass

A 2.5 is a lot of shock for this truck.

My wife loves the 6112's on her minivan. added benefit of a bigger shock, plus OEM style bushings for less maintenance. I have long been anti Bilstein after blowing out 5100's on my titan but the 6112's won me over. and these were bought used even.

As someone who ran 6112 shocks before the 2.5 KINGs, the performance was very good, and they ride almost just as smooth too!!

The rear 5160 left a lot to be desired though if you are not stock weight. For a stock truck, they were great. In my fast desert runs it’s the rear end that was the limit factor performance wise for the 6112/5160 combo

Anything beyond a 2.5” shock is overkill on the 4Runner platform

x2 on the 550 lb spring. Lots of weight on the front of my 5th gen with the 600 lb spring, and it does great.

No experience with the Billys, but it sounds like you could save the big coin going with them, people get a ton of miles out of them and they would probably serve you just fine.

I always push my trucks, and knew the bumper and winch were going on with a bunch of other heavy crap, so that's why the Kings. But, I do admit when I saw the pretty blue bling, I was like a little kid in the toy section. I want that, I want that, I want that!!

I do have over 40k miles during the last 2.5 yrs on the Kings w no issues for what it's worth and have not regretted putting them on. I will probably make some plans to rebuild them and my UCA uniballs and bushings in the near future, before any problems arise. Good Luck!
