Is it absolutely stupid that I want to buy a winch just because it looks cool?

OP, I bought my 2016 because it looks good and it costs WAY more then a winch! It just happens to be good at stuff as well as is a winch

Tbh, I don't care what anyone says regarding deflection and impact, if there are numerous deer in an area, I'm putting a steel front bumper on the front of my SUV or truck.
Also, the resale statement is false. You'd be lucky to get 1/2 of what you put into aftermarket parts if they are ON the vehicle. If you remove the parts to sell individually, you can sometimes get 3/4 initial cost back.

1/2 or less is all I really expected. I was just trying to make the point I'd get some of the money back, not all of it. But that's good to know so I don't expect too much. Do you mind if I see what bumper you have?

I’ve always had the saying... I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
However I frequent bad roads several times a year.

Larger tires and sliders are the most basic, beneficial upgrades you can do to a rig....sounds like you have a severe case of oem tire envy!

I think buying Pro instead of TRDORP and adding good bits is worse. Why buy “off-road” car and not even investing in sliders, at least LT275/70, or things like winch. For the color and badges? Limited would be better.
C4 low pro on order. And rails.

The only thing I would give you hell for is if you bought it, installed it but didn't have it wired up THAT would be stupid. If you are going to do that just go with suggestion above and pigtail a line and hook out of a fairlead for <300$ you have the look you wanted.
Its your money, spend it how it makes you happy as long as you have your families long term interest covered (emergency fund, retirement savings etc.) no judgment here.
But Yes, I think its stupid the guys who do all these mods that negatively effect the daily driving of the 4runner and never intend to take it off-road or are afraid of scratches and use a gallon of tire shine on the tires however it is their money and their life so who cares what I think. Its just funny to project being an "overlander" yet don't know how to properly use the winch, fire a fire arm, basic first aid, patch a tire, install their own mods, change a diaper, etc......
