Switching from all terrain to highway terrain tire- what are the best?

Time for new tires for my Toyota 4Runner 5th gen. She now reached 140k and this is here second set of tires! Pretty good, ehh?

Was running the toyo open country AT2 tires for about 70k miles and they are finally bald.
Size: p265/70/R17.

I don’t drive this suv anymore as I got a truck, so wife drives it. Looking for best highway terrain tires this time around. I want highway terrain because it’s now wife’s vehicle, and would prefer better MPG and overall ride, it will see zero off road.

What are the best? I like Michelin, which Michelin’s do you guys run? Other alternatives?

Michelin Defender LTX M/S.

Pricey, but fantastic tire in every way and they last forever.

You will not be disappointed.
 
I was very impressed with the Defender LTX M/S on a 2008 Sequoia. Really quiet and felt responsive for their size. But this is coming from a Southern Californian and that truck was driven almost entirely on our near-perpetually parched roads.

P metric Firestone Destination A/T. They call it an all terrain, but it behaves just like a highway tire. It’s really quiet and doesn’t negatively affect fuel mileage (looks more truck-ish but is actually quiet unlike most popular AT tires popular on this site). I found them to be really good in rain and snow and light off road. Ran several sets of them for 13 years and over 200,000 miles on my Tundras without any issues.
 
My dad is on his 2nd 4Runner both bought new. He ran his 1996 5-speed on Michelin LTX M/S from 30,000 miles to 240,000. I believe he went thru 3 sets over that time.

He just bought his second set of Defender LTX M/S for his 2011 SR5

Not sure of the difference between the "Defender" and regular LTX, they look the same..

They live in SLC in the benches area, so he does quite a bit of snow driving and swears by these tires.

I put these on my mom's Outback, they wore out quickly. Sure they did great while they had tread, but they really didn't last. She is an aggressive driver in mountainous terrain, but I really expected better life out of them.
 
I ran Michelin LTX M/S on my Tacoma for 175,000 miles at least then ran Firestone Destination LE until 236,000. They are very similar tires but the Michelin's were at notch better in the wet.

The thing about Costco is that if you use them for tire rotations, you're going to be there for a few hours at least. The initial savings is attractive, but you end up wasting time there while you wait for your car to be done.

I agree with the Firestone Destination A/T suggestion as well. Also a fantastic tire. It's what I have on my 4Runner right now and I'm very happy with them.
