Shrockworks slider on Limited install..or how it took all day

Got my nice Shrockworks sliders in for my 2016 Limited. Got the trim kit for the limited. Its some fasteners and a powder coated metal trim strip. Removed the old rockers, mudflaps..chrome strips :hello:. All good so far.

Trim came with easy to use instructions.

Now on to the sliders..so its 10am at this point. Chick would not help (to heavy) so I decided to do these by myself. ANybody who has seen them..they are heavy..like heavy!! I built a lifting rack using a jack and some wooden frames to hold slider as I rolled it into position.

Crack open the box. No instructions. Ugh..****ers. Call shrockworks..seem they go home early on a friday..:madgrin:

Now the install on Sunday morning 10am. Started on drivers side first. Dropped the gas skid. Some of the fasteners were tough. Used air ratchet. Supported gas tank. The Xreas on this side I used spacers and move pump out from frame 1 inch. Clearance over slider gussets was ok. Got it all done..all well so far... Because hey im awesome and wanted to do the drivers side first as its suppose to be by far the hardest. Used 1 or 2 stick nuts. No issues.

Now the passenger side..So anyhow it seems on the passenger side that on the lower holes..they were no holes!! For the M8 fasteners there were two. Both rusted solid. No worries..I tapped and cleaned them.

The Xreas on this side pump I spaced out an inch, it wasnt near enough clearance to clear the gussets on the sliders (compared to driver side)..they were almost bending around it. So at this point I had one fastener in place holding one side and was working under it on the other side trying to get bottom fastener in.

Drum roll please..

Then the slider fell off my side, dropped 10 inches and smashed me in the face. I bounced my head off the concrete. Was stunned for abit. Managed to hold it so it didnt rip the hardlines off... Got a jackstand and supported it.

Now I had to go back and drill multiple frame holes for the sticknuts. Took awhile but got it done with stick nuts. I gotta add and this is a big emphasis, why does Shrockworks supply Grade 8 M8s yet the 3/8s with sticknuts are cheapo grade 5s!!!! (ive ordered some new G8s on 3/8s to swap em out. Anyhow even with the Xreas spaced on passenger side at 1 inch from frame there was no clearance for hardlines and gussets, which cleared on drivers side. So I removed the sliders and notched the gussets with a grinder for clearance. Got it all done and cleaned up. Have some better hardware coming in today to replace with proper grade 8 bolts.

After I got knocked the **** out I took a couple of hours to rest and ice my face. The chick told me I needed to take it to a shop and get it done..yeah sure. I waited for her to go out and restarted it. Got it all done by 1am..:madgrin:

So sliders are on, got black textured powder coat. All is good more or less. Sure I look like ive been mugged..but hey aint nobody like a quitter

yeah, pics would be great. Next weekend can you return your truck to stock and install again to take some pics?

How many holes did you have to drill? I'm looking to do this over the summer and trying to gauge the level of effort/time needed. I'll likely go with BudBuilt though, so my install may be a bit different.

Also, what year is your truck? Hoping I won't need to drill the frame rails.

Its a 2016. Had to drill 3 holes in total. I did take some pics but need to upload them. Have pics of it on special lift machine I made.. some on the truck etc.

Its relatively straight forward, but do yourself a favour and have somebody help, its not easy doing it by yourself when you have no M8s and first nut is stick nut and the slider is loose..!!

I did my install last night at 5:30PM and finished around 8pm I have KDSS.

Driver side rear holes I had to use stick nuts but on the passenger side I had to use 1 up front and 3 in the rear. The manipulating I had to do with the stick nuts to get them aligned to start the threads was a test of patience.

yea trying to catch those nuts is tough without a friend!

Got all the Grade 8 fasteners in today for replacement. For stand offs I'm using M8 stainless x1 inch. Still gotta figure out how to post pics, I haven't since the other photobucket days. :sorry:

At least my face is getting better..so hey theres that! :third:
