Fox2.5 c/o and 2.5 Tundra rears with rr

Can anybody tell me how the ride is after installing Fox 2.5 shocks front and rear with factory valving? The info I'm getting is conflicting. Despite being subjective as to feel, some report being too soft and others say it's too stiff. Opposite ends of the spectrum.

What I'm looking for is excellent road manners without feeling every small noo and cranny, yet capable at mid speed over med whoops. Not expecting long travel performance in the dirt or rally car in the street but pretty damn close. Lol. Anybody share their feedback? I'm thinking of getting the Fox 2.5 and having Accutune valving but I don't hear any reviews at all. I know Fox isnt popular in the T4r crowd, but people have them.

In part the feel depends on whether you have KDSS and how high you set the lift. If you run Fox 2.5's at factory height - they are very plush feeling. Combined with KDSS they're fantastic IMO. They will be progressive and offer a steep ramp up of dampening on the big hits. That's good and keeps you from bottoming out. Otherwise they tend to be initially pretty soft in both compression and rebound. I only have the 2.0 rears - and IMO they're too firm in compression for an empty vehicle. With 400lb in the back - they're a great balance with the 2.5 fronts.
 
Makes a lot of sense. That's why the reports are polar opposite. Some have them cranked up while others are at 2-2.5 lift. Kdss also comes into play. I do have kdss so I'm going to run them stock and go from there. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks

Another note, tire PSI plays a big role in moderating the small road bumps and imperfections. bigger sidewall will give you a better ride. You won't be disappointed with the Fox setup. They love bigger hits at speed:trophy:
 
My front 2.5 have suited me well. Beat the shit out of them in Utah and could use a rebuild now. Will have a local shop do them using Accutune shims and stacks.

I’ll most likely swap to rear Tundra 2.5s valves by Accutune and some point.
 
Sounds like everyone is running stock valving. There are several people who say Kings stock valving is best but Fox with a revalve are best due to the shaft, seals, DSC, etc. it doesn't sound like many are doing this though. Thanks all.
 
If you in So Cali, you have accutune in carson. If you buy from them they will tune it for free based on your build.

having kings 2.5 on my 3rd gen and now tuned fox 2.5 dsc on the 5th

there is not a noticeable difference until you can do more high speed stuff for extended periods. ie getting the shock to actually cycle and continuously work. thats where the magic of dialing in comes in.

if your mostly highway like 80-90%. I would just suggest the one you can get the best deal on. you will not over drive the 2.5" if its just highway and fire road stuff.

also on a side note Kings will tune shocks as well at some events like king of hammers. Its just Accutune is so easy being in So Cali.

Lastly, I have seen Kings 3.0 on a 4runner...and that did make me reconsider the Fox's a bit, but wasn't sure if the cost difference was worth it for my usage.

but in the end its your dough...so you have to be happy with the investment.
 
So your Fox's were tuned by Accutune or somebody else? They must be good with stock valving cause few talk about doing it. Either that or the guys that have valving done are always in the dirt and are t on boards on the interwebs. Lol.

Right now I'm leaning stick valving and calling it good until I need. Rebuild then after a few years of feel Ill know what direction to go.
 
Accutune did mines, it was after a visit there on vacation. I did the install, just couldn’t pay someone to bolt things on when I can turn a wrench.

There is not a real good spot for the rear resi, if I were to do it again I would have gotten the hose extended to tuck them further back on the frame rail so it doesn’t sit so close to the tire. That is if your going with the tundra shocks.

In all honesty, I would have done what your planing, get them first at the best price and have accutune rebuild them when the truck is more built out to its final weight. That why you can tell tell if valving makes a significant difference for yourself

Also my Pro is just for trips so I don’t put any useless commuter miles on it. Learned from my 1st and 3rd gen. Nice to be able to still get to work if you break something doing fun things
 
Got it. Yes I will also be getting the Tundra shocks so I'll look at where the res sits before install. Not sure what else I'll add as far as sliders or bumper so gonna stick with stock valving until I use it and figure out what I'll need. Appreciate the tips. Thanks
 
Correct me if I'm wrong, but accutune told me that you have to cut into a bracket to get either the front or the rears to fit correctly with the res if you have KDSS. Can anyone here with this setup (KDSS + Fox 2.5) comment on your experience?

i didn't keep my titan long enough after buying the fox 2.5 to need a rebuild. The fox valving was good enough to not warrant the time revalving until i did a rebuild though. it was stiff on road but i deleted the sway bars on the truck so it was bueno. offroad was incredible for it being an OEM shock with stock width uppers and lowers (both were aftermarket but not long travel) I beat the truck too.


for the KDSS i would have accutune valve them super soft initially so day to day road stuff is PLUSH. Which is prolly how King tunes their stuff off the shelf since everyone says king is plush:deadhorse:

I believe the Fox rr mounting bracket needs to be cut in front on the Kdss side due to a bump, so the bracket doesn't sit flush on the frame.

One inch longer body = 2 more inches of droop. Basically an extended travel rear.

Been very happy with my Fox 2.5 DSCs and Tundras in the rear.
