4Runner Rock Sliders: Step Edition vs Trail Edition, which should you get? (updated Nov 2026)
Jake from Cali Raised LED here. The question we get most about 4Runner sliders is "Step or Trail?" Here's the honest answer.
Get the Step Edition if:
  • You want a real step for getting in, for kids or passengers, or for reaching a roof rack.
  • Your 4Runner is mostly a daily driver that sees trails on weekends.
  • You want the option of top/filler plates (raw, powder coat or bed liner).
Get the Trail Edition if:
  • Clearance matters more than stepping on them. The 20-degree angle tucks the slider tighter to the body.
  • You wheel tight, rocky trails where a flat slider can hang up.
  • You don't need top plates. Trail Edition doesn't use them.
Same on both: 1.75" DOM tubing with .120" wall, frame-mounted with Grade 8 hardware, full gusseting, 100% bolt-on with no drilling, kick-out or no kick-out, fabricated in-house in Fort Worth, Texas, free FedEx Ground to the lower 48.
5th Gen (2010–2024) fitment notes: both fit KDSS and non-KDSS. Limited and TRD Sport only after the X-REAS system and side moldings are removed.

Installed your light bar and behind the grill mount on my 4Runner a week or so ago. Looks / works real good. Really lights up my road.
