Has anyone reduced the range of the key controls? (2020 non-premium)

I have a 2020 non-premium SR5, so my key is old school with an actual metal key coming out of it that you have to put into the steering column to turn to start the truck.

It seems like the electric controls on the key have much greater range than my old Jeep had. I tried a basic distance test from within my home last night, and I was able to see my 4Runner respond to the locking signal.

I think this may make my 4Runner susceptible to accidental button presses, and I think it led to my truck getting some stuff stolen from it over the weekend. I want to reduce the range. I wonder if anyone has done it before and has any tips and tricks.

Just set Entune to automatically lock the doors if none are opened within 30 seconds or a minute of unlocking them. It’s in vehicle settings, and the doors will re-lock if you accidentally unlock them.

I could see myself locking myself out if I do that.

It won't relock if you open the door. If you accidentally press the unlock key while in your house, then the doors will relock, i.e. your key is in the house, not in the car. No way to lock yourself out of the car.
 
I don't have anything to help your request other than a comment that the remote lock/unlock is indeed very far reaching. Great feature if you are a far distance from truck and want to double check you locked-up without walking all the way back.

For those who want to increase the remote range even more, touch the remote to your chin while selecting the lock or unlock key. Your body acts as a booster antenna.

The default setting is to relock the doors after 30 seconds if they are not opened. So, if you do accidently unlock the doors, they will relock in 30 seconds. Try it..! If not :30 its :60 and can be adjusted to :30.

Wrapping your key in aluminum foil will reduce the range, but then that is a pain to do all the time when you come home.
 
Just buy a Faraday pouch on Amazon

Once inside the fob will not communicate with the 4r even if standing right beside it

This will also stop theft from the guys that clone your fob and drive away with the truck
