I'd rather have tow/blind spot mirrors than a little light and sensor. It's easy enough to do, seeing as it's already in their inventory of RAV4 mirrors.
It exists on even the base model Lexus GX460 so I'm not sure why it's not on the 4Runner. Then again the 4Runner has Apply Carplay and Android Auto and even the most expensive GX460 doesn't have that...it makes no sense!
I like it being available, however, I think it should also be able to be disabled. Why anyone wouldn't want the extra warning though I don't understand.

You made me think of a good question - does BSM reliably detect two (and three) wheeled vehicles? They are often without large, reflective, body panels.

Yes, it does, at least in my experience. I was curious about that myself, but after 20k miles on two wheels in the last 5 years, I think that system works well with 2-wheeled bikes. I rode a mid-size bike most of that time.
Am I the only one that just adjusts their mirrors correctly so I don't have a blind spot problem?
Sorry, I just don't see the big deal. I've had vehicles with this feature and I've always found myself just looking in the mirrors anyway.

The little light in your periphery tells you if you even need to turn your head to check.
My state driving program taught that you should always turn your head to check and never trust your mirrors.

I do move my head ... Slightly. I've tested this ... With proper mirror adjustment, just slightly leaning to either side and checking the rear end side view mirrors works every time. My point is that with proper error adjustment, if there's no vehicle in my rear or side view mirrors and not in my immediate periphery, it's safe to change lanes. There is no "blind spot".
I'm not against the future, it just doesn't seem all that useful to me. I do find cross traffic warnings to be a lot more useful personally.

I'd like to assume all drivers look when they need to change lanes (not just in the mirrors) and adjust their mirrors correctly, as they should. But, the little light is also nice to have as a back up. Sometimes even when looking you may miss someone sitting on the back corner of your bumper, especially in these sleek new SUVs with small rear windows.
This is really the one safety feature that I find extremely helpful. All the other TSS stuff, active cruise, etc. I have used, but I'm fine without.

Every time someone brings it up I still can’t believe it. They probably have an entire department of people developing their in-house infotainment software that they would have to let go if they had Apple Car Play and people stopped buying the updates. Thats a problem to do if they are in Japan.

I think I’m just not trusting of mirrors. To note, I also don’t have any convex (add on “blind spot” lens) mirrors on the driver side. Just factory plane mirror. I need to barely see the side of my car (usually the rear door handle) in the lower corner of the mirror.
I’ve talked to some drivers who like having theirs set way out in left field (literally) but then I’d have no reference of where stuff is in relation to my vehicle if I don’t also see the side of the car in the same frame.
Here’s my process:
0.) Signal
1.) If BSM is not alerting
2.) Start checking my mirrors for sufficient space to move
3.) If clear, I do turn my head and look directly before merging

I don't think BSM will do much for some people. I've seen *******s completely cut other people off and myself included even when their BSM led is flashing.
They have to make system that is idiot proof like not being able to turn the steering when there is a car next to them.

I have bsm on my other two cars. I find it helpful when racers creep up beside you while speeding and changing lanes. Let’s me know something is lurking
