How is your experience getting in & out of 5th gen T4R

How is your experience getting in and out of the 5th gen T4R?
I am 5' 10", when I am getting to the driver seat I have to slide or pull myself by holding the steering wheel. For better visibility my chair is set slightly high.
Is anyone noticed the handel is ommited on the driver side for the 5th gen?
Please share your experience. I am planning to order the running boars if it is avaliable from Toyota or installed after market.

I am 6'1" and its the same for me, there is one handle up top but its not as easy to use
Unless I can open my door all the way I end up sliding like you described.
I want those running boards that the Canadians are getting
 
Not too bad for me to get in or out, however, my wife (5'2") has to 'jump' out and has to pull herself in! I think running boards are a must for anyone her size! Also, I do wonder how the side of the seat will hold up over time due to sliding in and out for me?!

Thank you for your response. I agree with you how long the leather seat will last by using it like this. Coming from smaller car I never had this experience. I send Toyota an email regarding the running board avaliability, as soon I here from them I will post.

+1. Running boards will resolve this issue.
 
I am 5'6" and don't feel like I have to jump or "slide" to get in my new one, however I also drive a 2010 ford F150, 2009 F250, and Expedition on a regular basis so I guess I am just use to getting in and out of a taller vehicle. I had running boards on my 06 but none on the 2010 yet, from what I have noticed I don't really think I will be getting any. I have noticed that they took the handle out but only because that's where I kept a hair clip for when all my windows were down...yes I know it's a girl thing. I haven't even seen any other ones besides the 3 that the dealer here still has and none of them have boards either. Good luck finding them.
 
I'm 5'5" and also have no issues getting in and out. LOL. I also have a 2008 Ford F150 4x4 and just got rid of a 2008 Ford F250 4x4. The T4R is by far the lowest of the three.
 
I'm a hair over 5'9" and I tend to hop in and out of mine. Considering running boards when our kids get a little older.

I call Toyota service desk and running boards can be ordered and delivered in 48 hours for about $372 including tax. But the installation fee was about $135. Any one has similar experience?

I have a 2010 T4R Ltd. and up here in Canada they come with the running boards. My experience is not great with them. They are very, very slippery. I have fallen 'out' or 'off' twice. Of course, we have snowy road conditions here which doesn't help. I could see them being fine in the summertime.....maybe. I will be replacing them ASAP.

I had an 03 previously and those running boards were great, so I'm hoping to be able to replace with something similar.

Just put a couple of stick on anti-slip tape strips right where you step on the running board to get in.You can cut them to fit.They are cheap and you can take them back off in summer if you want.

I will of course(not)when I get some to put on my aftermarket rock sliders when they ever come out so my kids don't break thier necks. Probably stick with black though.lol:lmao:If you google "3m anti-slip" they make about every color in the rainbow!

My 11 and 13 year old are the ones that complained "daddy ,this truck is too high....daddy, this truck is hard to get in to" :crybaby:
They are not that high,especially when the water is rising!!Perfect for me a 5'11":cowboy:
 
I dont even give it a second thought because the door opening is so wide. Having driven both trucks and cars, I always found it more difficult to lower myself into and then around the steering wheel of a low car. Much easier to extend the legs/body to get in, in my opinion. My '96 had running boards, they were convenient for stuff on the rack. At 5-10 if I stepped on the boards I had to duck to get in. If you like them or need them for wife/kids, go for it. Otherwise spend it on gas.

I thought about doing this, but there are already small blank dots (?) on the running boards, which by the way, have zero traction. I think it may look weird having anti-slip tape on the running boards. It may come down to this option however. At 5'4" with the seat raised up high, it is not too easy getting in without squishing the seat and wrecking it down the line.

ditto here except its a 2008 chevy duramax and a 78 ford f150 highboy on 36''. and yes, a hairclip was the only thing i had on my grab handles as well. i actually found that the running boards on the 06 got in my way more often than i used them, because of the way that i'm used to getting out of my rig in skinny parking lots (the whole holding your door carefully while getting out to avoid hitting anyone else)
