Removed the Stop Bar on the Slideout Tray

Removed the bar on the slide out tray. 4-11mm nuts and did not affect the structual integrity in any way(which was a concern).

Now the rear bed area is nice and flat.

What I did find and haddn't seen was a "hidden tray" right in front of the slideout....two little fabric tabs, pulled them up to reveal a storage nook...very pleased!!

Maybe I'll try the removal after living with the stop a little longer. I've used the pull out tray quite a bit already and kinda like the fact that the stop makes sure nothing rolls forward, but we'll see.

BTW, I don't know if this is obvious to anyone whose 4R was delivered with the stop raised up, but it DOES fold; not completely flat, but down to about an inch high. That might make enough of a difference for some fence-sitters like me.

Actually ckon, if you push the flap down a little farther it eventually touches the tray and makes a little ramp so that it is nearly flush with the bottom.

Does anyone know if you can remove the cover that is under the sliding cargo tray so that you could use that area for storage? I know about the narrow "hidden" tray that Pat noted above, but what I'm talking about is the room directly under the sliding tray - the spot where the third row seat would occupy if it were installed - there must be some empty space under there without those seats, right? Am I just dreaming? The last several SUVs that I've had all had little trunks in the back for things like jumper cables, tire repair stuff, air compressor, etc., but the "hidden tray" won't hold that stuff so I'm hoping there is space available after all...Thanks!

There is not any hidden storage there.Just the rails for the tray attached to the floor of the bed and those filler pieces .Pull the tray aft and look at it.The spare tire is under there on the bottom.The ones that have the 3rd row seat option stick up about 8-10 inches back there when the seats are folded down. Look at the first 4runner(gray sr5,5th picture) on the owners pics thread and you will see it.

OK - so that means that ones with the 3rd row seat are not flat in the back with all seats folded? How odd. I've never seen an SUV with 3rd row seats that did not fold flat into the floor. It must look strange too! Oh well, I was hoping...

They fold flat. But the whole flat part is high.

Yeah, the first thing I did when I got home with the truck was to yank that stop bar off. Takes 2 minutes and can easily be re-installed if so desired. Doesn't affect the performace of the slide-out tray or the structural integrity of the bed in any way.

I really like the slide out tray (I know some here think it's pointless). I but when i'm loading my 110lb amp cab in there, it makes all the difference in the world.

I initially didn't like the slide-out tray but I can see how it is useful (bumper saver when loading things).

I also didn't initially like the stop bar but find it more useful than I thought. I guess I'll leave it for a while. I'm sure I would misplace it very quickly if I removed it.

The actual hatch opening on the 3rd row seat 4Runners is a few inches lower than the floor.

Looks like the wheel wells are completely different from other photos that I've seen with the sliding shelf. The specs note the same cubic feet of storage for either option so it would make sense that the top of the seats is the same height as the shelf, but it just seems like something is missing down in there since the seats are so much thicker than the shelf.

I just purchased a new 2010 4Runner TE and would like to remove this bar as well but, I cannot seem to locate the nuts that I have to take out. Can you please tell me where they are located? Are they under the pullout tray?

There are four of them under the hinges that support the stop.

I apologize, I still don't understand where they are at. Are they on top of or underneath the pull-out tray?

Under. May be easier to access from the front of the tray while leaning through one of the rear doors with the seat folded down.

I love the stop bar...comes in handy when loading lots. I had my Engel fridge in for a little trip last weekend and it cozied up next to the stop bar perfectly. Same trip had a number of things behind it with the second row down and nothing slid into my dog...I think he loved it too for once.

Good find on the hidden compartment...you were probably soooo pleased.

Thanks! I pulled it out. Now what are you guys doing to fill in the 4 holes that are left behind? I wonder if I could find black caps that would snap into the holes?
