tires... Toyo Open Country Mts? Or Goodyear MT/R Kevlar

trying to decide between GoodYear MTR/Kevlar 275s/70/17s or Toyo Open Country MTs. I think both look super cool and very aggressive. Both are know to be fairly quite for an aggressive tread. I will be using mostly on road but want a tire that fits the 4 Runner from what i have heard they both are great on road too. Obviously when i hit some trails or beach will be perfect. Both tires weight about 20lbs heavier than stock since are E rated. Ouch. Third solution would be to get the goodyear MTR/Kevlar in C rated 265/70/17. Save about 10lbs.... wonder if you can tell the difference in looks between 265s and 275s. may not be worth the weight increase.

What your guys thoughts?

Two members here have these tires. They look awesome. Hope they don't mind me posting. And if they can give some feedback even better!

Might I suggest a 3rd option since you are willing to go with a 265/70R17?

GoodYear DuraTrac, 50 Lbs. each. in "E", and IIRC, 47 Lbs in a C.

Like the boots Mikey...are they highway friendly?

Would you recommend them for a 90 mile a day commute?

They make a nice low hum on the highway. But they aren't rated for more than 99 mph, so I've been forced to drive like Grandma. They handle turns well, and I've enjoyed every mile on the highway so far. Mileage hasn't been too bad but I'm not yet past 1000 miles on the odometer.
 
Well...I love my Wranglers! I have been averaging about 18.5-19 mpg (mostly highway and little city) I got the tires siped and they kicked a$$ this winter =) Offroading is nuts with these things too! There is nothing that they will not handle - The Duratracs are pretty sweet but they did not come in a 275 (only 265s). Let us know what you end up with.

I like the Duratracs. I see you got the E ratting. Maybe a better choice than C? i've heard the duratracs are kinda pliable on highway driving and sloppy, maybe because to soft. That true or not at all?

They look great on your truck. Was thinking i liked the sidewall of the MTR a lot better...

How are they on Highway and roads? and in rain? that is pretty good MPG. I'm only getting 19.5 now....

Do you feel the 275s look bigger/ more aggressive?
 
My $0.02...Toyos for sure...unless you see snow in the winter (you did mention beach though, so I doubt it). If I didn't have to navigate ice and snow for 5 months of the year, I'd have Toyos over the BFGs I just put on.

Aesthetics aside, the only problems I have read with Duratracs is the people who chose the "C"-rated over the "E" for their large trucks, and that is mainly on the Discount Tire review boards. Maybe I'll feel differently in 40k, but I liked the load capacity and they got great reviews in snow and off-road use. It was a toss-up between Toyo and GY, really.
 
I hated my Duratracs but had the C load rating. I'm also very particular about the tires I run.

Good Luck. I'd like to hear a review about the Toyos. Those look promising.

No problem. On my last 4runner ('98 LTD), I went from Interco Trxus MT which look awesome and ride MISERABLE, to Bridgestone Revo's which look ok and rode great. The Nitto to me is like the child of the two in those aspects. Got the good looks from dad and the smooth ride from mom haha.

Terra Grapplers = A/T. Kinda weak but better for noise/highway.
Open Country M/T = Badass in the mud, quiet on the highway (for a mudder).
Goodyear = look like they might be a directional tire. I have no experience with them.
 
Still have not decided. Who has input now that its been a little longer and some may have some more input or put some miles on either or others.
 
I have 15K miles on a new set of Goodyear MTR's with Kevlar on my Dodge Power Wagon and I hate them. Stay away from them.
 
a guy up the street from me has the mtrs, he likes them but doesnt see getting many miles out of them, but then again, they're on his work truck & he replaces tires about every 2 years. out of the 2 the OP stated, id go with the toyo mt. mickey thompson baja mt are nice also. Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels
