Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

Time will tell if it's a winner. But I'd bet that it's the only engine option and it comes with and without hybrid options.

If the 2.4 what are folks thinking in terms of with or without hybrid, in terms of preference.

My default thinking was to favor the hybrid, but I'm not sure that I have much in terms of reasoning except for a reduction in turbo lag.

It would make no sense to me if it's the TTV6. So just a better Overtrail?
While it may take sales from the GX, I suspect not that many people cross shop Toyota and Lexus. If the Toyota dealer can keep the buyer on their lot, with choices, they have a better chance of getting the sale. Further, since the Bronco and Wrangler have V-6's, maybe Toytoa wants to use the TTV6 to draw those cross shoppers in.

Hopefully we know much more, including full specs, on Aug 1st at 8pm EST (Japan time, Aug 2nd, 10am).

I think you make a good point, but unless there is a substantial price differential, I can see this going as did the previous Landcruiser in which everyone opted for the LX and the Lexus badge.

This "Legend Returns" campaign I think requires something different of significance.

GX has a panoramic roof option. I'd guess the LC shares the same option for the roof since they appear to be a shared product. Would be very easy for Toyota to take the pano roof and make it one or two removeable panels. Not sure it's very likely that they will, but the structure is already there. So it's possible to do without major engineering work on the body structure.

However - the bump you see there is the stamping in the non-sunroof roof panel. You can see below that the GX550 without the sunroof has an separate set of stamped structural elements up front. If you look close you can also see the three mounting points for the roof rack with the rubber caps on them on the image without the sunroof. I'd bet that that is the same roof in the teaser image (no sunroof, no roof rack):

Circling back on the roof options as I had time to go over the GX550 pre-order guide on Lexus.com.

All trim levels (except Luxury+) get “Power tilt-and-slide moonroof with roof rails”.

The Luxury+ gets a “Dynamic Sky panorama glass roof” and no mention of roof rails.

The top picture has to be from a Luxury+ GX500 (with rails as a standalone option?), while the moonroof-less/rail-less picture has to be from a barebones non-US GX550 or from some LC250 version.

I've been digging around to see if I could find any other early information, I came across a thread on the Bronco forum. The poster knows someone who drove the Land Cruiser this week in Utah and in fact it does have the TTV6 engine.

Buckfever, your hunch was correct, I've confirmed with someone in the know at Plano this was a bad tip, no TTV6 for the LC.

No V6 TT?!? TFL initially said 2.4 turbo hybrid. Maybe that’s the only option. I think the 2.4 turbo would be a huge failure for sales.

I don't know about that. Maybe it is region specific. Around here, a lot of people cross shop the two brands. The Lexus dealership shares a parking lot with one of the Toyota dealerships...same automotive group. These are full size dealerships in a major metropolitan area, not some remote backwater. They want you to drive the 4Runner, then GX or Rav4 then RX. As long as they get the sale, they don't care if you walk out with a Lexus or a Toyota.

I am extremely curious and excited to see what the NA Landcruiser is going to look like and what options it will have. I know in my heart I want a new 6th gen Hybrid 4runner but I still would like to see what Landcruiser brings to the table.

I have seen people car camping in RAV4 hybrids, they leave the ignition on and set the climate control to whatever temp they want to maintain through the night and the vehicle runs like a heat pump. Starting occasionally to keep the battery charged.
With LC250 and 4Runner moving to the 2.4t hybrid I am assuming any hybrid would function this way?

I'm curious too. The 2.4 Hybrid Max is more similar in implementation to the new Tundra and Sequoia. I wonder if those two vehicles can do the same?

Although, I believe only the PHEV Rav4 Prime has a heat pump.

There's a video on Youtube of a guy camping in a new Sienna (hybrid) and he sets the AC to 68 and shows how the car starts every 20-30 minutes to recharge the battery and the climate control keeps the vehicle at 68 all night long.

I love the old 4.0 reliability but I do plan on some lengthy trips in the new vehicle and this would be perfect. Assuming all hybrids operate this way.

The GX550 is 3 inches longer and 2 inches wider than the 5th gen 4R and a bit taller. The LC250 might be a great solo camper build candidate.

I’m not saying it’s not possible. I’ve seen it done on regular rav4 hybrids.

I’m just saying only the Primes have the heat pump. So all hybrids can run AC since the compressor runs off an electric motor but in order to produce heat — regular hybrids must generate that heat using the engine and only Primes have the heat pump to generate heat via the battery.

That said, the hybrid system is different with the body on frame vehicles. If the AC compressor is not belt driven on the new Tundra hybrid and Sequoia then yes you will be able to do the same as the videos you’ve seen and is very likely the Tacoma and next generation LC and 4Runner are the same.

EDIT: upon further reading. The Tundra indeed operates the same as the non body on frame hybrids. The engine will shut off and the AC will continue to cool until the battery is discharged then the engine will automatically turn on to recharge the battery.
