Best speculation of a 2023 6th generation I have seen

Headlights and headlight assembly seem to differ between AUS and NA pictures.

The AUS headlight as clear side markers, the NA has amber.

For the headlight assembly, the NA version doesn’t come flush with the hood like in the AUS version.

The headlight variations might be associated with local requirements, but also trim levels and whether used in conjunction with a heritage grille or not.

The AUS pictures look like renders and not official Toyota pictures. Granted Toyota did show a lot of renders for the new Tacoma, but I’m wondering if these aren’t actual Toyota renders and ones by someone who’s seen the vehicle. It’s possible they didn’t capture/remember every detail in the render? Just speculating, but we shall find out soon!

That tail light makes me think Land Rover Defender even more than anything on the GX550... Not a bad thing though .

I'm actually liking the new teasers including the Toyota NA picture. Wasn't sure how this one was going to turn out, but may actually prefer the styling to the GX. Guess we'll find out more in a week or so.

I'm not sure what is retro about it? It appears to have basically nothing at all in common with the heritage land cruisers. I can't see any meaningful designs from an Fj40. I think a 5th gen 4R looks a lot more like an FJ60 than this does.

But I also like it. It just looks to me to be a new 4Runner.

I don't see a front locker button. But at least there's a blank where it should go. I do see a traditional shift lever for the transmission, but not for the transfer case. And on this one, there's no 2hi option , so it's probably awd only.

No chance. The lower left corner is a button to open the rear glass like the GX. Same rear gate.

Oddly - the teaser image they used last time was missing the rear spoiler on top of the hatch, but this release has it. Is it optional? Or did they just remove it for the photo?

And - the body line of the glass and button doesn't align with the black trim on the rear quarter panel. Probably pre-production parts. But they need to clean up the fitment.

I agree - probably not. But I was also referring to the crease above the LC text and even with the taillight. The sheet metal does not look like 1 piece - and if it wasn't a split gate - you would likely stamp it as 1 piece.

I see what you're looking at. And I agree it looks like separate panels. But I think there is a full hatch width plastic trim panel that is about 4 inches tall that is what we're seeing there and the hatch is actually a single panel with that plastic trim overlay on it. And that's what creates the body line gaps that look like a separate tailgate. I can't imagine them having a flip up glass panel in a flip up hatch with a gate. Maybe they'll surprise us all and have a multifunction rear gate/tailgate that also has a flip up glass panel. We'll find out next Tuesday!

This is not a production unit. Small details may change by the time it hits the assembly line.

From that profile of the front it looks a lot like the ‘10-‘13 4Runner’s front end. I’m anxious to see what the new LCs price point will be too.

That does look cheap, AWD only which I believe Carmaker1 or someone suggested a few months ago. Basically a GX with a different grill and interior. The price will be the big factor. I'm guessing $70,000 US and $85,000 Canadian.

On the split tailgate. I say zero chance. The J300 also has that line which implies a split tailgate but its just a regular one. Someone else pointed out that in the leaked pic where it says "LAN.." between the rear window and the rest of the tailgate is just where the GX550's light bar would normally go. I'm inclined to agree.

I was just looking at pictures again and I’d say it’s safe to say Toyota is pulling a GM here (Silverado/Sierra), at least from a body perspective. Whether or not the drivetrain is shared is still TBD.

I was looking at the global site TexasFunRunner shared earlier as well as the GX pictures and it looks like a different front end and modified rear are the only exterior differences. Like you said, where the Land Cruiser badging is is likely a direct fit for the GX lightbar. The GX tail lights also appear to have a plastic filler piece below them that matches the shape of the new Land Cruiser tail lights.
