    88 to be crushed

I am almost certain I am going to turn in my 4Runner to the CARS Program. It does have the factory Aluminum(?) wheels with 2 month old tires. If you are interested in the tires or other stuff before it goes, send a PM and reply so I get notification. I live in northern VA, near Harpers...

    autohub torx screws wanted

Dingman, Is there a dumpster I can dig through?:D I'll check ebay. Can I drive it without putting the autohub back together? Do those screws (or the autohub assembly) keep the adjustment nut from backing out? I'm sure to have more questions and thanks so far.

    autohub torx screws wanted

I had to drill out one of the 5x.8 torx screws that holds the brake hub part of the autohub. The dealer says they do not sell parts of the autohub just the assembly -$300+!!!. So please PM me if you have any extra of these screws. I have a pair of rt frt wheel bearings that are still good, PM...

    '88 Auto hubs

Thanks for the correct term of cone washers. I have tried some of the hammer technique and will try that again tomorrow. Will the hub come off then? I also removed the large "C" clip that is under the hub. Auto hub not budging. Thanks, Larry

    '88 Auto hubs

Hi, I am trying to replace my front wheel bearings. I have removed the six nuts on the automatic hubs and two of the "collet" type washers plus the center bolt inside the hub cover. Questions: Does the A.H. assembly (aluminum) come off as a unit? If so, I assume the "collet" washers are keeping...

    vibration

Read fourwd1 reply to my Wooble post. The problem may be listed there. I'm interested to know what you find. Lug nuts tight?

    Wobble

Thanks again fourwd1! I had new tires put on and I don't know if it has completely gone away but it seems much better for now. On (back) to the tailgate!

    Wobble

My 4runr has a wobble that feels like the lug nuts are loose. They are tight. It is more pronounced at low speeds and does not come through the steering wheel. The rims are stock and I think they may be aluminum. Were these stock on an '88? Could they bend without me hitting anything? Any other...

    Top-off and rear window question

The window has a rubber seal a the top that should keep most of the elements out. I think there are drain holes at the bottom of the door that you might want to check to make sure they are open. My top had not been off for the first 20 years but there was still some rust inside the tailgate.

    vibration

My '88 has a vibration that seems worse at slow speeds but does not go away. It seemed like a bent rim ( I haven't hit any thing) or loose lug nuts(checked) or bad tire(?). Now I am thinking U-Joint. It has 174K miles. Any suggestions or checks I can make? Thanks, Larry

    hard starting

my '88 with Efi 6 cyl starts hard first thing in the morning. After the initial start it starts fine. I have to crank it over about 3-5 times, Does this model have a fuel filter? I could not find one in the manual.

4x4 trip ends with a bent door.

Without having a picture of the dent, it is hard to say. If it is in the center of the door you could even try a plunger or a suction cup. If you bang it out be sure to have something on the other side to support the metal. Think of the way the dent was made and reverse the process. Start on the...

I am getting ready to remove my starter to replace. Any tips on getting in there? Does removing the access panel on the fenderwell help?

    decal removal

Thanks for the advice. I tried a hair dryer with no luck. I have been afraid to use the heat gun but I'll try it on the low setting first. Had not thought of Goo gone. The truck was parked outside since '89 but the paint looks ok. The decals are faded but not cracked.

    decal removal

My 4runr came with decals which have been on there since new. I would like to remove them. What is the best way to do this? Will the decal outline be on the truck or will I be able to buff it out? Thanks
