One thing i do remember doing while we had the MAS off and checking the OHMs ,i moved the air door back and forth .I wonder if that thing was stuck .

As the title says .It sounds like if you held an engine at about 1500 to 2000 rpms and cut the ignition off and on but as soon as you let go of the throttles it drops to idle and will idle just fine We have replaced the tps ,fuel filter ,fuel pump.Checked gap of signal gen. , coil ohms is ok...

Do you use the two marked links in the timing chain or put the dot on the crank sprocket straight down and the cam sprocket dot straight up ? This one has the cam sprocket dot at about 1 oclock when the dot on the crank sprocket is straight down if the two chain links are on the dots .Arnie

Got a chance to test the AFM today . E2 -Vs = 67 ohms ok E2 - Vc = 179 ohms OK E2 - Vb = .279 ohms NOT OK E2 - THA = 2.08 ohms @74 degrees OK E1 - Fc OK . So the E2 to Vb is way off ,should be 200 to 400 Ohms Maybe this is it .No way to know with out trying a known working one . Kids will...

Well checked every thing we can think of and what the book says and its still idling very rough .For now we are going to increase the idle speed and live with it .

Engine is idling rough and seems to be using a little more gas .Does any one think it could be the temp sensor on top of the thermostat housng ? It seems to idle ok when first started in the morning when cold . As it warms up it idles rough .Any other ideas ?? Its a 1986 sr5 4 runner . Arnie

The fact that your timing is way off all of a sudden is a dead givaway to timing chain problem. Could also be a plugged cat but im guessing timing chain. Arnie

We had a big power loss on a 22rec and it was the timing chain had jumped time .The guides and stuff that keep it in line are cheap plastic and was all busted up .It would still run but no power and would accelerate slow .Arnie

BTW ,if we put a 1/2 spacer between the header flange and the head then there is enough room where its hitting to slide a piece of corragated (card Board) through that area .If we had a 1/2 inch header flange then we could space it out .We may still do that if the one for the 1990 doesnt work out .

There going to send us one for a 1990up model today.
