I'm having the same problems with mine. Idles rough, idle goes below 750rpm and almost wants to die at the stop light so I'm forced to heel and toe sometimes.
Like a noob as you say, I cranked up the idle speed to keep it from dying. I'm taking it in to a good friend of mine who knows more about my truck than I do. I'll suggest the list of things, Bad_Vision mentioned, to my friend.
This engine is brand new, but I ran out of money pretty quick, so I couldn't afford to replace all the 25 year old emissions and vacuum components.
I'm going to replace the OEM intake cause It's crimped and do have a small cut in the rubber near the throttle body, however, after throwing brake cleaner around it and the other vacuum hoses, the engine idle didn't change so I don't think there's a leak per say.
